I noticed this too, I don't know why but that bugged me a little!!!!

Anyhoo...we did tip extra for an exceptional server. Bob at Hoop de Doo was so great, we made sure to tip extra. Our server at LeCellier was so friendly that we tipped extra there as well.

Not so much to our server at Spoodles who never entered DH's order so my food came alone while he came over laughing that he didn't put DH's order in and never even apologized!! Also at Mama Melrose I so wish the tip wasn't included!!

Re: Do you tip when using the Disney Dining Plan

WEll, from what I have read, as soon as the servers find out that people are on the DDP, the service takes a dive south. I wonder if I would tip on top of the already added 18%.

Which brings up the question, do you have to tell them that you're on the DDP as you order or not?

I don't know that you have to tell them but most asked us.

I have to say, on our trip last May we had wonderful service at every restaurant but Sci Fi and I've read that that's pretty normal with or w/o the dining plan.

If we have truly outstanding service, we will tip when on DDP.

Re: Do you tip when using the Disney Dining Plan

There have been a couple of times where I wish I had the option of checking off a box that said "This server didn't even offer basic average service and should NOT receive the 18%". We always tip extra for great service, which we've gotten more of than substandard service.

Most of them ask when you are sat and it's noted on your reservation as well. Disney dining asks when you make the ADRs. I am sure you could trick them if you wanted to and not tell them till the end.

We've tried that, they're none to happy to hear that you have the DDP after the meal has been served. As a rule, if service is great, we will tip additionally, otherwise we don't. (Is that bad?)

Re: Do you tip when using the Disney Dining Plan

Like most everyone, we tip if the service is good...We usually left a little (most servers were fine), but our waitress at the Rose and Crown was just great and she got a good tip! Actually, we would have invited her to sit with us if we could ....! I think Andrea has a great idea about a little check box though - there were one or two we would have done that for.

Re: Do you tip when using the Disney Dining Plan

It would take a lot for me to tip on top of the 18%, but if someone really impressed me then I would.

It doesn't feel like I want much, but sometimes drink refills and an occasional "can I get you anything else?" are hard to come by. Without these 2 things, there is no way I would ever tip above and beyond.

We were there a week ago and at most places had excellent service, but the few that were just OK were really bad not to come back after they bring your meal out. If anyone has noticed they always suggest the most expensive thing on the menu. I guess because the more it cost the better the tip for them. I guess I would do the same. We had this one guy as our waiter at Rainforest Cafe(not on disney dining plan), he would fill up my glass, but never filled up my husbands. He even asked, said he would be back. Never saw him until the bill came. He didn't get a great tip. My husband is a good tipper, but if they don't come back with refills, I can promise them they just lost out on a great tip. I did notice people not on the dining plan did get more attention, but in the waiters defense I don't like to be bothered alot while I'm eating, unless they can tell I need something and don't come by to check on us. I guess the waiter/waitress knew the ones on the dining plan already have their built in tip, while those not had to be earned. Over all still had great service and WANT TO GO BACK SOON.

Re: Do you tip when using the Disney Dining Plan

I tipped an additional for great service. There was one place (Crystal Palace) that the server was HORRIBLE that I didn't tip extra...(I got better service at McDonalds) I waitressed in high school for 3 years and I am now a p.t. waitress for the WDW vacation fund so I usually overtip...I usually tip 20-30% on average anywhere I go.

I'll think more about an additional tip now.

I was recently looking at a site discussing the International Program that employs the staff in the various pavillions in Epcot. Wait Staff in positions that receive tips were noted to receive in the vacinity of $3.?? an hour?? I will definately consider an additional tip for excellant service when on the dining plan.

Poor service is poor service, and I have regretted that you can't alter the tip on the DDP in those cases.

We've used the DDP twice and never really had any issues with our service. And yes, most of the time they will ask you whether your on the plan or not.

Re: Do you tip when using the Disney Dining Plan

We used the DDP three times and tipped in addition to the included tip. I think part of it has to do with DH college days and for about 2 years after his graduation he was a bartender. Just like many others who have worked in the service industry, he knows what it is like to depend on tips! We also have two young kids and well...sometimes they make a mess! two of the times we used we used DDP, it was free dinning so we figured since we did not pay OOP for meals, it would be nice to leave an extra tip.
