Pretty silly thing for me to do since they already sail oout of Florida. I'f I were to fly to the west coast for an Island vacation I would just hop back on the plane and head for Hawaii!!!!!!!!!!:)

What is the reason? We did a cruise around the Hawaiian Islands that was awesome 4 yrs ago. Sorry off the subject. We live in FL so obviously cruising from FL is much easier for us. However, it is always nice to go someplace new, so I would be open to a cruise out of Los Angeles. I've heard Ensenada and Cabo San Lucas are very nice...

YES!!!
I was just thinking about this the other day. I'm planning a B-Day cruise for my daughter (not 'til 2006) and I was thinking how much easier it would be if it sailed out of Los Angeles (We live 30 minutes from LA).
I'm making the Disney Cruise in Florida a 1-time thing, but if there was a cruise leaving L.A., it would become a yearly vacation!! Hope it really happens! :D :D :D , Katherine |

There's a law (sorry, don't know if it's federal or state, my guess is state) that requires any typical cruise vessel to visit a foreign port in order to cruise around the Hawaiian islands. Currently there's only one cruise company, Norwegian, that sails Hawaii for that reason. If you look at their itinerary, you sail south to Fanning Island, Republic of Kiribati, are there for about 8 hours, then sail back. Others are Hawaii-Vancouver.
The reasoning for this I'm guessing is so that the waters off Hawaii don't become cluttered with large cruise ships. Also, these particular cruises are without casinos onboard. (While this isn't an issue with a possible Disney cruise, most cruise veterans are used to the casinos as timewasters between ports.) A co-worker took this particular cruise, and the trip back and forth to Fanning Island was exceedingly boring, he said. Fanning Island is also a... less than ideal port. This is about all I know about the situation, but I hope it helps. Maybe someone else knows more?

Hopefully, this may explain the Hawaii thing:
One of the more important things to consider when selecting a cruise is that due to the Passenger Services Act (aka the Jones Act), passed in 1886, to protect US flag ships with cabotage laws, all non US flagged ships must call in a foreign port. This is the passage from the PSA that defines the law: "No foreign vessel shall transport passengers between ports or places in the United States, either directly or by way of a foreign port, under a penalty of $200 for each passenger so transported and landed." The law still stands on the books today and is strictly enforced. Until a US flagged cruise line resumes service within the state of Hawaii (American Hawaii and US Cruise Lines went bankrupt as a result of 9/11) you will have to call on a foreign port. Other cruise lines serve Hawaii, but NCL is the only one that does so year round. For Disney to go to Hawaii, they would have to stop in Ensenada, Mexico on the way in order to do it.

Since we live in NJ it is so much easier to fly to Florida. Like someone else said, going out to Calif you waste too much time. And with the time changes and all. Besides I really dont like DL. Its been along time since Ive been there, but even when I check out the website every now and then it really doesnt thrill me.
I just LOVE Disney World :heart

Take a 1 hour ferry ride to my cruise ship instead of a 5 hour flight and get to see Tokyo Disney... that would be a happy day indeed!

I voted NO, BUT I'D LEAVE FROM FLA...
I have taken 4 cruises (3 from New York and 1 from Miami) and ABSOLUTELY love cruises!!! I will definitely take my DS on a Disney Cruise one day, but for now, he's only 19 months and you still have to pay full price for infants and toddlers! So we will wait a while..definitely at least 4-5 years! But I would leave from Florida, not Los Angeles. I agree with others on this thread, gettiing there would be such a hassle, when I can easily hop on a plane for 2 1/2 hours to Florida! What about a Disney Cruise from New York??? THAT would be awesome!!! They could go to Florida and the Bahamas...something like that. I wonder if it's in the works...:hmmm

I'm with you iluvwdw!
I've taken several cruisses and absolutely love them. So relaxing! My favorite was a med cruise -- actually, "Pearls of the Med"! :) Especially if my kids were still kids, I would take the family on a Disney cruise. I've heard wonderful things from friends who have taken their families -- but out of Florida! :) :heart :)

Also,I was on Cruise411.com yesterday, and the cheapest price for a 4-night Disney cruise was 569 dollars PLUS port charges, etc.,and the cheapest price for a 7 night of Miami on the Norway with ALL fees was 428 dollars. I think the reason Disney cruises are SO expensive is the fact that they don't have casinos and since alot of their passengers are children who don't drink, they have to make money somehow.

Another reason for the cost, mickaholic, may be that the child care clubs are available free of charge from early in the morning until midnight. I love the disney cruises!
