Should Disney shareholders get special deals?
Disny, for a long time, offered shareholders discounts on park passes and other items. When they discovered many people where purchasing one share in order to receive the benefits, the program was terminated. The poll deals with the question of whether Disney should reinstate this program, with some minimum requirements.
The second questions follows: If they do start this, do you purchase Disney shares just to get the discount? |

I think that Disney should offer some type of perk to shareholders. If discounts are given, in order to get around the 'I'll buy one share to get the benefits" it would have to be a percentage based on the number of shares you own. That way you would have to own a fair number of shares to really get benefits.
We buy stock in companies that we use or purchase from anyway (at least when we buy individual stocks). We figure that if we choose to shop at a certain place over other places on a consistent basis, then the company has, for us, some feature that would make owning it desirable. Of course, DH then takes the prospectus from the company, does about a million different calculations on the data, spends hours checking it out online and then decides whether to buy or not ![]() |

No I would not buy shares just to get a discount. I believe that eventually, Disney stock will be a good investment. It would be prudent for WDW to provide reasonable discounts for serious investors (100 share minimum or 500 share, or whatever)

I voted maybe but only if I'm one of them! :laugh :)
Seriously though I think share holders should possibly received discounts but only if it is more than like one or two shares. If you invest a good bit of money in a company then yes there should be some perks! |

I might be wrong on this, but I remember years ago, friends told us they did have some "perks" for stock holders, but like everything else. "All good things must come to an end"!!!!
Maybe, just maybe they might give us some deals. Yeah , right!! JOANN:)

As a financial advisor I would never recommend buying a specific stock just to get a product/service discount. I am a Disney stockholder, but I am in it for investment purposes, not discounts. Plus, when you add the associated costs such as a commission for a stock purchase, just one share can cost you $30.00 and up. So unless the discount is substantial, or a blanket discount, eg. 10% off tickets, lodging, etc..., it wouldn't be worth it.

I agree!
I am a Disney Stockholder, because I believe in the company. Disney thinks enough of me as as stockholder to ask for my vote periodically, so I think that some sort of benefit is a resonable thing to request. I own some Boeing stock, too...I wonder if they would let me visit the place where they assemble the planes? That would be too cool!:p

Many many years ago, shareholders were offered a Magic Kingdom card for free or a nominal fee. It was valid for 2 years and allowed modest, but worthwhile discounts. Consequently, I bought some (40?) shares. Some years after that, I recall that Disney decided that there were too few 'one-sy' shareholders and tried to get people to buy more shares. If memory serves me correctly, the request was heavy-handed, terse, and very businesslike rather than a cordial invitation. I even seem to remember sending them a letter (pre e-mail) to express my dissatisfaction with their decision.
The MK card evolved into the Disney Club card, the perks eroded, and finally it is no more. To finally answer the question: Yes there should be some benefit given to shareholders. It needn't be much, but enough to instill that sense of ownership. Suggestions?: A club at the parks like the ailines have at airports. Discounts on merchandise. Accumulate points for each day visited. Just bring back the Disney Club!

Shareholders should recieve some kind of discount based on the amount of shares they own. That's fair.

Our one share certificate is lingering in our desk.
Yes, many years ago, you did receive a membership to the Magic Kingdom Club and some rather good resort discounts. I know we used it for several years, then the Magic Kingdom Club was merged into the Disney Club. Wouldn't mind some new perks with it though - but can't see it happening.

Re: Should Disney shareholders get special deals?
I think they should reinstate the program. Also, all those "onesy" shareholders, if they held on to their stock - I'm sure have more than just one now. I know my shares have split many times over.

Re: Should Disney shareholders get special deals?
We own 16 shares of Disney stock and counting. Dh buys me a few for each special occassion since I spend so much of his "hard earned money" on Disney stuff anyway as he puts it. We buy the stock because we see it as a solid blue chip investment in a company that we love and buy from, so for us it makes sense. DD has 1 share that is framed hanging abover her bed, so I guess you could say that she is a one share owner. We bought it for her to get her interested in learning about the stock market and investing at a young age, plus the characters on it looks nice in her room. Ds has a framed share of Pixar since he loves Toy Story. His was bought for the same reason. Ok, I am straying here, but for us we invest because it is smart--not to receive any special perks. That said, if Disney offered discounts or perks for their shareholders, I would be all for it as long as it doesn't take money away from my dividends. Since we reinvest our dividends (not alot with 16 shares but eventually we will own another share just be reinvesting), I would prefer to have the dividends rather than perks at the parks.
Boy, I sure am wordy today... Maybe I've had too much coffee already! ![]()

Re: Should Disney shareholders get special deals?
It would be nice if I got some sort of perk for owning 100 shares, but I can live without it. But my stock is worth twice as much as when I bought it, so that counts for something or a perk. I get nothing for my owning Vivendi or GE, nor did I get anything when it was Seagrams that controlled Universal. I do have this inner sense whenever I am in one of my parks that I am a part owner. Hey, but I do get ABC and NBC for free and that's gotta count, doesn't it?
