What should Disney do with the WDW Carousel of Progress

So, it is closed, and now open again for Christmas, but sure to be closed again. What should Disney Imagineers do with Carousel of Progress?

I think they should keep it open, but it needs updating!

I personally think that since they removed the one in Disneyland, that they should keep it open. I also think that it won't happen. It is in need of a sponsor, and I don't see that coming. What I do see happening is it being removed to another park (EPCOT hopefully) or more likely torn down to make way for a new E-ticket ride, or an update to Space Mountain. I know that I will enjoy the new ride they create, but it would be great to have both. Definitely a fond memory from childhood.

EPCOT Center

I'd have to say move it to EPCOT Center over between the Land and the Living Seas (in the original intended location of the Great Movie Ride). I think it would be better preserved there and then the space in Tomorrowland can be used for that e-ticket attraction that's been rumored.

I do beleave that it would work well in EPCOT. It follows with the whole looking towards the future while still remambering the past theme.
Tomorrowland is now just a area of futuristic fun and activities instead of an area of "explororation"(roy disney) EPCOT is now the center of "exploration". So move CoP to EPCOT and open up the space for (in conjunction with space from skyway) a new attraction that deserves such prime realistate(new e-ticket).

I really hope they don't close or move the COP! I remember the old song and have old memories! When I was little, they actually filled up all the auditoriums. It was my Dad's favorite, too. And now that he is gone - it means even more to me.

Save the Carousel! Save the Carousel!

I never thought about moving COP to another park. That is a wonderful idea. I don't think I've ever been to the MK and not gone on it.

Re: What should Disney do with the WDW Carousel of Progress

We're divided on this issue - on one hand, it's great nostaligia. It sort of takes you back to "the day." My DW took DD in there many times on DD's first WDW visit back in 1986 - when she was 6 weeks old! DD seemed to be able to relax, get out of the heat - and DW was able to feed her (if you know whta I mean... On our recent trip (two weeks ago), DD and I visited (as we always do if it's open). Of course, the thing malfunctioned and we had to sit through the Second Scene twice. And DD spent most of the rest of our trip humming "Great, Big Beautiful Tomorrow..."

But if nostalgia is what you're after, go to a museum. For instance, River Country was the first water park and it's been shuttered for some time now...

After all, the name IS Carousel of PROGRESS.

Save it, save it!!!!! This was my favorite ride as a child at Disneyland(I was crushed when they changed it to America Sings, then loved it!) and look forward to it each time we visit WDW. A little piece of my childhood will go with it should they decide to remove it

Re: What should Disney do with the WDW Carousel of Progress

I love this ride, I don't see Disney keeping it open in any matter within MK...so only logical thing is to move it to Epcot, they just can't lose it completely...that would be horrible!!!

Re: What should Disney do with the WDW Carousel of Progress

I voted to keep it open as is. My DD loves that attraction and always wants to go on it. She would be so sad to see it go or changed. The first thing she asked me when I booked our October trip was "Is the COP going to be open?".
