Which would you recommend for a first timer to WDW?

So, you have some friends going to WDW for the first time, and they come to you for suggestions. They want to stay on property, but where?

For value resort I'd vote Pop Century. Coronado Springs for moderate (can't recommend PO as I've never seen them). For Delux, either AKL as it's the best ;) or GF to be on the monorail. I would suggest they put as much money into lodging as possible as I view it as an intergral part of the Disney experience rather than as just a place to sleep in between the "real" vacation BUT that would be contingent on the person visiting feeling that way too -- if they didn't, then they should just stay at PC and save their $ for other things.

That's a hard question to answer. There are too many variables. Such as what can they afford? What do they like? And the big question, are they going to like WDW? Some of my friends went and said they didn't like it and would rather go to Six Flags. So again that's a hard question to answer. Joe

I love the Wilderness Lodge. If I didn't have to worry about paying for it that would be my choice hands down.

For a moderate resort we really loved POR.

It was quiet but had lots to do. Nice restaurant too

I haven't stayed at any of them, but if I had the chance, I'd stay at one of the Epcot resorts (CB, BC or BW). Just to be walking distance to 2 parks and the Boardwalk, walking distance to the monorail to get to MK... that would be too cool. :)

I thought about this a bit .. and since it would be thier first time I voted for Pop Century.. because you can always start out with value and then if they love it as much as we do ..they can go back and stay again and again to any resort.

I voted for Beach Club. For a first timer its a huge bonus to be so close to 2 of the major parks and to have the boardwalk across the lake.....not to mention stormalong bay for your first Disney pool expierence.

My first thought was "budget" but I decided to take money out of the equation because I know people that have the money to vacation but have never been to WDW.
So...my pick for them would be a place that would offer up a great first impression of my favorite place on earth - an Epcot resort!

Matt (above) has listed all the same points I would make.

For a first stay on WDW, I said AKL. It's a wower, but not to expensive as compared to the other deluxes. It represents WDW very well with it's excellent theming and the animals are just a bonus. What a welcome to WDW for a first timer!

I figured money was probably an issue for a first-timer, so I went with All-Star Movies. I think it gives you a really good dose of the magic, but doesn't stretch the pocketbook. ;)

If money wasn't an issue, I would have gone with the Poly.

I have to agree with sjpurple, especially since she's my Mom and I went with her. We stayed at POR and it was terrific. Pay the extra money for the upgrade, go moderate and stay at either POR or POFQ. I would definitely stay there again in a heartbeat, and highly recommend it to anyone. As a matter of fact, I have recommended it on here and to several of others in the community. You can ask my Mom.

I chose Port Orleans-French Quarter because it is a moderate resort, and we found it to be small enough that it did not feel overwhelming. The kids loved the pool & the food court, and we were not so far from a bus stop that going to the parks felt like a hike. There is also a boat landing there to take you to Downtown Disney if you like. It was a great experience!
