Quote:

Disney Central Apprentice Task 1:
Disney has been looking for away to make EPCOT even better. One of the biggest guest request has been in the World Showcase area. There is no special or unique dining experience at the American exhibition. Your task is to design a restaurant/attraction that would be located in America (in the center if the World Showcase). The restaurant should showcase America and American cuisine; this could be America past, present, or maybe even future. Remember that the restaurant must fit in with the World Showcase. This restaurant should be a great place to show case American cuisine to the international guest beyond fast food.
Post your solutions below. This task will be locked on Tuesday at 6pm EST. Voting will then begin and beheld until Thursday at 6pm EST and the next task listed.

Good Luck!

(see rule addition concerning ties in voting and scoring link )

But not better than steak and kidney pie which is of course what you meant, isn't it?

I'm just looking for the sympathy vote here. Gotta think tactically!

Re: Disney Central Apprentice Task 1

I'm confused. I thought the International Gateway was the back entrance to Epcot which leads to the Epcot resorts....

Post your solutions in this thread...

MerlinMatt, You are right that should be World Showcase not International Gateway.

OK. Here's mine.

A new building would have to be built either on the left or right side. I think the right side (between AA and Japan) would make more sense because the left side has an access road.

It would be a two story building. The lower floor would be an ice-cream shoppe/soda fountain where you could get traditional American snacks like milk-shakes, ice-cream floats, funnel cakes and a wide variety of ice-cream flavors. It would have a small patio of seats and a walkway back into the Japanese garden in the Japanese pavillion.

The second story would be a sit down restaurant which would feature 20th/21st Century American fare. Selections would include gourmet pizza, fried fish, chili, etc. I think the menu would be a cross between Uno's, Chili's, Friday's & Olive Garden. The pricing would be $$-$$$ according to the WDW pricing scale. It would of course be open for lunch and dinner and possibly a character breakfast with Mickey and the Gang.

On the walls and in various parts of the restaurant would be pictures and references to 20th & 21st century United States. Things would reference Elvis, the Lunar landing, Microsoft, USA beating USSR in Lake Placid, etc.

Here's the best part. The front of the building on the second floor would have huge windows for excellent viewing of IllumiNations.

This place would be packed every night.

BTW, I found a GREAT aerial photo of Epcot (http://www.ipkonfig.com/Articles/Spa...cot_center.jpg)

Re: Disney Central Apprentice Task 1

I think of America as a celebration of all the States and their differences. I would center a restaurant around this theme.

The menu would consist of but not be limited to items from every state.
For example:
Starters:
Maryland - Crab Cakes
New York - Buffallo Wings
+ other starters from other states

Soups & Salads:
Ohio - Cincinnatti Chili
Massachusetts - Clam Chowder
Wisconsin - Cheese Soup
California - Cobb Salad (I think it is from California)
+ other soups and salads from other states

Sandwiches:
Pennsylavania - Philadephia Cheese Steak
Louisiana - Po Boy
New York - Coney Island Hot Dog
+ other sandwiches from other states

Main Dishes:
Virginia - Ham
Texas - BBQ or something Tex Mex
Oklahoma - Chicken Fried Steak

with choice of the following:
Massachusetts - Boston Baked Beans
Idaho - Potato Casserole
+other main dishes and sides from other states

I would also have a selection of pizzas made any way you want them - Chicago, New York, or California style

Desert:
Kentucky - Derby Pie
Massachusetts - Boston Cream Pie
Washington - Apple Pie
Mississippi - Mud Pie
Georgia - Peach Cobbler
Louisiana - Bananas Foster
Of Course, you need to throw in chocolate chip cookies
+ other deserts from other states

The restaurant would include sections made of four tables or booths decorated according to each state. You could even find a representative from each state to assist in decorating its section.
Here are some examples:
Tennessee: Elvis, Blues, Volunteer State
New York: Statue of Liberty, Big Apple
Texas: Alamo, Cowboys
There would also be a picture wall so when famous people visited from each state, you could hang up their picture with that state's logo on the frame.

In the entryway to the restaurant, I would have a store that sells popular items from each state.

For entertainment: I would have computers set-up on the walls near the table or hand held devices that would have fun trivia questions about the states, kind of like at ESPN Club but instead of questions about sports, it would be questions about the States. I would also have famous people - look alikes from American History and icons of American Culture wander the restaurant from time to time - like Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, or people from history - George Washington, Abraham Lincoln.

The restaurant would only serve lunch and dinner, not breakfast.

Re: Disney Central Apprentice Task 1

Okay, I want to do this because it sounds fun. Mine is along the same lines as Aggie but different:

The restuarant itself would have a huge Statue of Liberty serving as the doorway. Once inside their would be sections of the restaurant: Southeast, Northeast, midwest, etc. These sections of course would be decorated to showcase the best of each section. Each section would have natives of the area of the country as waiters/waitress. MUST be native because you want them to have the accent specific to that area of the country.

The food would be buffett style. It would circle around a model of the Liberty Bell. The buffett would showcase different dishes from each area. I would want the ones we all know about (ex: Philly Cheesesteak, New York Pizza, Memphis Barbeque, etc.) but I would also like some maybe other people in other parts of the country don't know about (ex: Southeast: shrimp and grits, Beaufort Boil, boiled peanuts) The restaurant would serve lunch and dinner.

From Karliebug --

Quote:

My American Experience Restauraunt would be a "Country Fair". There would be foods from all over the country, all our regional favorites. Fried chicken, Catfish, "blackened" fish and steak from the Bayou, Desserts like apple pie, smore's, apple dumplings with ice cream , fruit cobblers, funnel cakes and whoopie pies. I am not all that versed in regional cuisine, but there would entrees from every main region of the country. Maybe lobster and clam chowders from New England, or steak and BBq from the southwest. You get the idea.

Re: Disney Central Apprentice Task 1

OK I have come up with my idea!!! Notice how the task mentioned the past, present, and future. So my resturaunt would be 3 stories: underground would be the past, main level entryway: present, and the upper level would be the future. The returaunt would actually be three different returaunts, but you would entire through the :present" to remind you where you are comming from and where you are returning to. This would also be a character resturaunt so the characters would be dressed appropriatly to the area they were working, and the Past would not have any, because there wern't any during the time period we are going for.

Main Level/Present: OK so this would be similar to something you would find like a Applebee's, Chili's, Fudruckers, etc... To me the present is the 1900's basically so anything from the Model T to Microsoft would be featured in this section. Picutres and artifacts would adorn all the walls, like I said similar to Applebee's.

Underground/Past: OK, How many of you have been to Colonial Williamsburg?? Probably a very limited number of you, but it is hard to explain, I am going to do my best. This area would be looking back at the Colonial era, where there was not another house for 10 miles, and the country was still being founded. Events that would be represented in this would be from the Revoloution to the Civil War, and in order to keep this Disney there would be no mention of Slavery. I feel that pictures of cotton and southern mantions are more appropraite. The area would also not have any characters, because they had not been created yet. The food that would be served is basically Colonial foods.

Upper Level/Future: The future is open to interpertation. I have no specilfic ideas for what this futuristic area would look like, so I will leave this to your interpertation. There would be dressed in maybe a "Space Age theme". The food would be normal, but just have "cool" names to make them sound futuristic.

OK thats it for me!!! I just want to let you know that my idea is not eligible for voting, becuase I created the question. LOL.

Re: Disney Central Apprentice Task 1

Ok here's mine. You have a 2 story building, a smaller replica of the US capitol. The center of the place is the rotunda where there will be seating. Above the seating area will be a bald eagle suspended from the ceiling. The second floor will have seats around the edge of the rotunda looking down to the 1st floor. The second floor will also have tables and windown on the World Showcase side for spectacular views of Illuminations and the World Showcase. There will be exactly 50 tables in the whole place, each representing the 50 states, 25 on the 1st Floor and 25 on the 2nd Floor. Items on the menu will be things like steaks, fried chicken, hamburgers, chili, california wines, louisana cajun, tex-mex, seafood and so much more American food. The cast members will be dressed in black pants with American Flag sequin vests on top of a white long sleeve shirt. Along the walls will be photos of American landmarks. American flags will be hung from flag poles leaning into the rotunda from the second floor.
