Free pins at Disneyland Resort - not sure if WDW does this

Many sit down restaurants at Disneyland will give you a free pin after you spend $20. They don't advertise it; you have to ask for it. Every week it is a different pin. The pins aren't anything spectacular but they are free and are not otherwise for sale.

I'm not sure if WDW does this but it's worth mentioning.

Re: Free pins at Disneyland Resort - not sure if WDW does this

Free + pin = me trying to get one. I hope someone gets to find out before me however. I spend $20 at sit-down meals...definately. Even if it's just a button...who cares? it's free. Please someone try it.

Re: Free pins at Disneyland Resort - not sure if WDW does this

No, they aren't button pins, and not pins exclusive to the restaurant. They are the little metal pins that are the trading type. Last time we were at DL and ate at one of the pin places (this time we ate at Carnation Cafe, a sit-down restaurant on Main Street), we got a Tinkerbell pin. It's only the restaurants that have waiter/waitress service. (and it would be pretty hard to eat at one of those places and not spend $20)

Not many people know that they even do this...we heard about it from a friend YEARS after we had started buying annual passes! (No, you don't have to have an AP to get them, just spend $20)

My guess is that they are "overstock" pins, pins that were once for sale but now have been retired or replaced or whatever, and are now give-aways. If they were incentives or exclusives to that restaurant, they'd advertise that they do this, which they don't.

Sometimes, they'll run out of their pins until the next week. They only get a certain stash to give away in a week, and again, you've got to ask for them if your bill is over $20.

Re: Free pins at Disneyland Resort - not sure if WDW does this

And you know, you mention Chef Mickey's, which is at a hotel. I'm not sure if the restaurants at the DL Resort Hotels do this, or at Downtown Disney. I do know that they do it in the parks. Chef Mickey's too is a buffet - the types of places that DL does this at are the menu places. Carnation Cafe, Blue Bayou, The Vineyard, etc. We've asked at a few other places but it's definitely limited to the nicer sit-down menu service places. And of course you've got to order more than coffee...I'm sure that's what the $20 minimum is for.

I'll certainly check this out when we get to WDW! Especially now that we plan on doing our first pin trading on this trip!
