money pin?

while we were at dw and a tradin away, a cast member offered us a pin, and claimed it was one that was considered a "money pin". Does anyone know what a "money pin" is?

thanks

ps
yes, we did trade for it.

I've heard a "money pin" referred to as a rare one that is a hot commodity. The one my daughter got was a "mood pin" Cinderella from the UK.

You can check www.dizpins.com and check it's street value if you want.

What did you get? (she says, all ears)

It is a bronze square one that says "Walt Disney's Laugh -O- Grams A Reel of Fun.

Thanks for the help on the website.

Teresa, that pin is part of a series sold by the Disney Store that depicts milestones in the Walt Disney Company. It was limited to 5,000 pins, and there are 10 pins in the initial set. Disney pin traders usually refer to limited edition pins as "money pins", in that they may someday be worth some money, unlike open stock pins. While I doubt this pin will ever be worth more than the original price, you never know.

In order for a pin to gain in value, it has to be limited to a small number of pins, usually 1,000 or less. Most of the surprise pins, which now value between $50 and $250 are limited to 500 pins, and are not announced prior to release.

ok, so I should just trade it for one other pin then? it is not really worth a lot? I did not want to make money on it, from the commet and fuss that was made by the cm, I just thought it might be worth more than one other pin in trade. ;)

I just love this website. There is always someone that knows the answer to every question:D

Thanks Yall!

Teresa, if it's any solace, the CM made a lot of fuss over my daughter's Cinderella mood pin, and it's not limited edition anything. I think sometimes they just don't know, but get excited over a tidbit of information provided to them by a guest.

Personally, I think that for the majority of pins, the value is always going to be higher to an individual who purchased or traded for it. What I mean to say is that if Splash Mountain is my child's favorite ride, his Splash Mountain pin, though only worth $2, is going to be worth much more to him, and he won't trade it for the Flubber pin, that is worth $150. You are never going to find a pin that has substantial value from any of the CMs or any pin traders around WDW.

I trade pins because I like the pins. If you see a pin you like, trade for it, and don't worry about the money aspect. Just make sure you aren't giving up something special to you.

I took my son to Disneyland Paris for his 12th birthday, and we could only find one pin in the park, since they hadn't started trading pins yet. It was a Disneyland Paris Space Mountain pin. It was his only souvenir from our Disneyland Paris adventure. Our next trip to WDW, he traded it for another pin that was onsale in the stands for $5. Of course, after he realized that he traded that pin away, he was heartbroken, and we went back to find the CM who traded for it, but he had traded it away already. In the end, it cost me over $20 to replace that pin for him. I am sure that he will be more careful in the future.

It's all according to the sentiment of the pin. If it holds a fond memory, even if you don't particularly care much for the pin itself, keep it. If there's no attachment, trade it. :)

No, it really wasn't his fault. We were waiting for the monorail, and he was talking to one of the CMs. He asked me if he could trade a pin, and I said yes. The CM said he wanted the Space Mountain pin, and he wasn't really thinking, since the monorail had arrived, and we were in a hurry. He realized it as the doors to the monorail closed.

Poor little guy! I'm glad to hear you were able to find a replacement.

My son almost lost a favorite cruise pin this trip, with a very pin-ducated CM. He seemed to want a certain pin of my son's and was kind of agressive about it. He was about to trade (the CM approached him, not the other way around), but backed off when I came over. Sheesh! He's a kid!

Mickeymac, I read your post about the somewhat agressive CM trader. He wasn't nasty to your child was he? Sounds like he's trying to take advantage. This is horrible behavior--understandable from the pinsharks but not a CM. :nervous

When I came over, he was speaking in a sharp tone to my son. I didn't catch the words, but stood there and asked my son how things were going. He didn't seem comfortable with the situation, so I asked the CM what was up. He told me he was "just trying to help 'my son' learn how to trade" He then wouldn't show a mystery pin to my son (which I can understand) but was rather brusque about the explanation. To me, tone of voice is soooo important when talking with kids. He seemed like a very serious trader himself.

We went and traded with someone at the front of the store and had fun doing it. We just won't ask about any of that guys pins again (which was how it started)

Mickeymac I agree with you completely. Tone is important when it comes to children. I'm a bit hot-tempered so I probably would have gone off the wall. I guess there are bad seeds everywhere. Hope this incident didn't affect your son's Pintrading.
