Pin Trading in the parks

What is that like? I just started collecting this year so I wouldn't know since I haven't been yet. So is it really fun to do and where are some great places in the parks to do it?

It couldn't be easier or more fun! Just approach any CM and if they are wearing a yellow lanyard (green lanyard wearers trade with kids only), you may trade with them. There are some rules and etiquette. Don't interrupt the CM if they are busy or talking to another guest. Don't touch the lanyard or the pins, ask and let the CM show you. When you choose one to trade, point it out, and remove your pin and place it in your hand. The CM will do the same. Always put the backs on the pins before trading. The trade has to be one for one.

The places to find the most CM's with pins is in stores. The CMs that work in merchandise almost all have lanyards. CMs in other place may or may not be pintraders.

Most of all....Have fun!

It's so easy, any CM that has a lanyard can trade up to two pins with you. Just walk up and start up a conversation while you look over his/her pins.

Re: Pin Trading in the parks

Yes you can. We stick to CMs but you can ask any guest but unlike CMs they don't have to trade with you.

The Pin station at DtD is a great place to meet serious pin collectors.

Re: Pin Trading in the parks

In DL I found that there were three spots that seemed particularly good for trading with CMs to get the Cast Lanyard Pins...

Pooh's Corner
Stores and the lobby in the Grand Californian
The pin stores in DCA

But I traded anywhere and everywhere! Those places just seemed to work well for me in December...

I also recommend that you keep your eyes peeled for any Cast Members who are wearing a suit and a lanyard. Those folks usually are loaded with excellent pins...

Re: Pin Trading in the parks

My kids LOVE pin trading with the CM's, but I keep having to go on EBAY and buying pins they don't care about so they have some to trade. Once they do a trade, they don't want to give that one up ever again.

Re: Pin Trading in the parks

That's what I just did. I just bought a dozen pins on eBay but once my little DS saw them he wants to keep most of them. Maybe he'll change his mind once we actually get to Disney and he sees better ones from the CMs.

Re: Pin Trading in the parks

I think it's a lot of fun trading pins. I've only done it a time or two with non-CM's, but I've found that isn't as fun. The regular civilian (non-CM) collector is much harder to trade with. Especially the ones who have the great big binders or those pin vests, they are hardcore and usually won't give you anything you want. Trading with the CM's is a lot of fun, and as long as they don't already have the pin you want to trade, and your pin is an official Disney pin, they have to trade with you...
