Value question

I just bought a pin off ebay and recieved it and the needle is really bent! The pin has no scratches or anything of the sort. Does this decrease its value? Just curious because I have another pin like this too.

Re: Value question

No worries! If it's a "keeper" for your collection just slide it into your corkboard at an angle and s-l-o-w-l-y bend it back. You can reposition as necessary. Then lather, rinse, and repeat! If the post snaps (hey - we've all done it once or twice) there are some great epoxy products I can recommend that do a fine job holding the post back in place. If the pin is for trade just be sure to tell your prospective swapper about the condition it's in. I've traded for many pins with bent posts for my collection without devaluing them. Once displayed, it's impossible to tell which ones are bent and which are straight... not that there's anything wrong with it!

Peace & Pins,
Andrew

Re: Value question

I remember this happening to Dana where she won a pin on eBay and it came bent, it was before she left for her last trip so it was awhile ago. I don't remember what she ended up doing but I hope she sees this thread! Dana always seems to have handy advice!

Ya I don't think I want to try that . It seems hard and I really don't want to break it. Any other ideas?

Re: Value question

I have bent some back using a pair of pliers... Just slowly and carefully, and I also just made sure not tadd any scratches to the post as I did it.

It is pretty easy for a pin to get bent in the mail, because they can sometimes find themselves under a huge pile mail.

How do you do that without breaking the post? That seems much easier.

Re: Value question

A year or so ago I bought some pins and one arrived with a broken post, what is the best way to attatch it? I've asked my day so solder it on but he's not done it yet. Is there an easier way?

Get the smallest controllable needlenose pliers and bend it the opposite way until it is straight.

If you can't find small ones, use tweezers.

Tweezers can do it??! That's great because they aren't strong enough to hurt it! Thanks!
