Last time when I went a CM gave my DD a fake pin. Matter a fact 2 seperate Cm gave her fake pins. I didnt notice untill 1 hour later but my daughter didnt want to return it so I keep going..

The cast members are issued one lanyard and pins when they start training. The pins do belong to Disney. The "Pin Store" is a place where we can go to trade any duplicate pins or pins we don't want for different ones.

I was told by a CM, that they grab a lanyard at the begining of their shift, and they can trade their lanyards with other CMs during their shift
