Re: Dumb question about traveling with pins

When my boys took their Odyssey of the Mind pins to Boulder this spring, they were asked to pack the pins in the suitcase not to take them in the carry-on. The made it just fine.

Re: Dumb question about traveling with pins

I packed my pinbag in my carryon and didn't have a problem. Newark airport just asked what all the metal was. When I explained cameras & pins, they let it go without searching. Orlando, on the ride home, didn't even ask. So, they do let them go on the planes.

As for latch hooks, I'd say that since they let knitting needles on, there should be no reason why they'd say no to latch hooks. They are curved afterall, what damage can you do, hook a nose with it? Knitting needles are far more dangerous.

Re: Dumb question about traveling with pins

Even though people keep saying it's ok, I think I'm just going to go ahead and pack them.....I'm paranoid about stuff like that, and I'll have the rest of the trip to trade pins. I'll just relax the first day :D

I love to latch hook! It's so...um, easy! LOL But seriously, it's relaxing without having to work too hard. I used to knit, but it's not quite as relaxing to me because it's easier to mess up.

That's what I was thinking! It'd be pretty interesting to see someone try to use that as a weapon...but you never know these days!

Re: Dumb question about traveling with pins

On my last trip, I bought some plastic crochet hooks, and they let me through. I was also worried about the pins, but I've decided not to take them with me. Just the thought of losing one... not worth it. Instead I'll be taking a picture of them, and that it's what I'll be taking with me.

Re: Dumb question about traveling with pins

I ended up not taking my pins through DFW....although Mom had accidently packed scissors so we had other problems. Since we were coming home in the afternoon of our last day, I forgot to put my pins in the suitcase, but I got through MCO with no problems or even questions.

Re: Dumb question about traveling with pins

We took our pins in our carry on luggage and didn't have any problems. No one said a word about them.
