10 year old question about packages
WDW considers ages 10-17 as juniors and ages 3-9 as a child. There is a price difference. Is this the childs age at time of package purchase or time of travel.
Here's an example. My son is turning 10 in July. If I buy a package for Christmas time today, he is 9, but will be 10 when we travel. Let's take it a step further. If I buy a cruise package today that I won't take until summer of 2005, again do I say he is 9 or 10. There is obviously a big cost difference and the logical answer is to say he is 9. But what if a CM asks my son how old he is and he honestly says 10? I don't want him to lie. Mickey, I'm sure you've come across this dilema before. Thanks!! |

Re: 10 year old question about packages
technically, I think you are supposed to go by the age at travel, but I would have no qualms about buying the lower price ticket. What's the worst that could happen? You say you didn't know and they ask you to pay the difference, which is not likely to happen. When my daughter was 2, almost 3, we went to disney. She is very tall for her age. We took her in and out of the parks with no questions with one exception. One CM asked for her ticket and I told her she was only 2 and she let us right thru with no more questions asked. They do'nt want to hassle guests.I would buy the lower priced ticket and not feel at all guilty about it.

karliebug, you took the words right out of my mouth!! The only exception I would make is if you were purchasing airfare with Disney. For that,I think they do need the right age at time of travel.

Yes, please Mickey. I'm going to be running into this, too.
Thank you!

Re: 10 year old question about packages
You are supposed to go by age at time of travel. When I purchased our package my DD was 2 but turned 3 before travel date so I told them she would be 3. I couldn't lie about it so I told them the age at travel. I know no one would have questioned it because my DD is small for her age but it was just a matter of principal and conviction for me not to lie. So I guess it comes down to your choice of what age you want to tell them.

Re: 10 year old question about packages
When I made my reservations The WDTC asked for their birthdays D/M/YR. I them made before my son turned 10 in March. So the confirmation paperwork I have says 9 but they have his birthday in the computer.

Re: 10 year old question about packages
The age that they will charge you for is the age the date you check in. So, if your child has a birthdate when you are at WDW, you will be fine.
For the Cruise Line, you are required to give birthdates prior to sailing, and have to back that up with birth certificates/passports. The fares are based on the date of sailing. So, if you book when the child is 9, but they will be 10 or 11 when you get on the ship, they are charged as a 10 or 11 year old. For the cruise, it really isn't a big deal, since there isn't a price difference, but at WDW, it would make a difference for the park passes.

Re: 10 year old question about packages
The price is the same until they are over 17 for the on property resorts. The park tickets is were the price changes 3-9 is a child and 10-up is a adult price ticket.
