I'm an absolute wreck...mind if I vent a bit?

OK, I try to be the resident happy person, but I am frazzled today & need to rant a bit. Thanks for listening, in advance.

First off, the WDW job...there's a problem. I tried to reach my recruiter to get some basic questions answered. Left messages, no response. I called back & was assisted by someone who said she could offer basic help. She also informs me that recruiters can take up to a week to return calls. That made me a little nervous, because what if something is urgent? This is the only guy (so they say) that can help me! Well, I tell her that after re-examining my budget & with some things that I was financially counting on falling through, that I was going to need more income. I figured out just what I should expect to be getting paid (I was originally told I'd have more hours & a higher rate of pay, so things later changed for reasons I don't get) & it doesn't cut it for my bills & needs. So, I said I'm going to have to get something else outside of WDW part time until they can offer me full time in 3 months. She says that for my position, they only need me to give them 2 days a week. OK...with all the info she gave me, I figured I'll get (at that rate), about $120 a week before taxes. To be honest, that isn't worth the gas money & daycare costs I'll have to part with to take the job! By the same token, I don't particularly want to work multiple jobs on varied, crazy schedules. I have no idea what to do. I'm totally lost & out of time to figure it out.

Now, onto the BIG catastrophe...anyone who knows me at all knows that the most important people in my life (next to my kids) are my grandparents. They raised me & in my eyes, they are the most perfect people on this earth. I cannot imagine how I'd even be alive now if it weren't for them. They are both very sick & I've been battling with coping with that as well as not having the ability to pay to get all the way out to visit them through it all, when everyone else in the family lives right there & doesn't even go to check on them. It kills me daily to think of the situations with them. So, the other day I hear it's raining in Texas again. Then, I do some reading up & I see that it's all centralized in New Braunfels...where my grandparents live. I see a house floating down the river & realize that house is right down the road from my grandparents. Meanwhile, there house is old, in not so great condition, my grandfather has Parkinsons Disease (advanced stages) & can hardly even move anymore. My grandmother is on oxygen 24/7 & dependent on the electricity, which I hear is out. They're also alone & I'm stuck here, in Florida. I have talked to my grandmother & she says they are home & all is fine, meanwhile, I am sitting here all day watching their neighbors boating down the street. I am positively scared to death. Please, if you could, send some pixie dust out that way. I feel so totally helpless here & I cannot imagine what I will do if anything happens to them. I can't even think of how I could function. For all of you out there with loved ones in Central Texas, my thoughts are with you as well. Let's hope that this ends soon & with no more fatalities.

I am a firefighter from Round Rock Texas and there has been a lot of flooding in the Central Texas area. We are about 25 miles north of Austin and about 75 miles north of New Braunfels. Being in the Fire Industry, I'm sure the New Braunfels Fire Dept would help her with your grandmothers portable oxygen needs. All you/they would have to do is call the fire station. The raining has been slowing and so the weatherman thinks the "worst if over".

I admire you for going for your dream job. This is one Texas family not too far behind you to do the same.... We are Disney Vacation Club owners and Love Disney. I thought I would retire there and drive a bus or work as a fire inspector in the area. Good luck and hang in there...

Dawn, I'm really sorry this is happening to you. We at Disney Central have been having a hard time of it lately. Just remember that I'm sure your grandparents are happy for you that you have moved and are pursuing your dreams. And you know they know you love them very very much. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers and wish the best for your Grandparents. Hopefully the worst is behind them and for you also. Do you know if their house is intact?

I hope the Disney job works out for you. When you told us about the move and about the trouble you had with your car I really felt for you. I'm positive that good things will start happening for you shortly and everything will work out, just as I know our situation will work out. Have you worked any at Disney yet? Or were you just scheduled to work?

Sending you lots of pixie dust and well wishes.

Oh Dawn I hope that things pick up for you soon !! I understand your worry about your grandparents and I hope that the worst really is over down there .. I know the news just showed a few minutes ago that the water was going down. Its good that they are home .. but not good that they are still with out power :( I just feel awful that I have no way of being any real comfort.

Tink...I found some spare pixie dust that I'm sending right back at ya, hon. I truly hope things are looking up for you as well.

As for everyone else, THANK YOU! Things are looking up a bit. First off, things in Texas are going better & my grandparents are in the clear!! :D So, all is good out there. See, pixie dust works!

As for the WDW job, well I am going to Traditions tomorrow! I can't even sleep, I'm so nervous. Yeah, I'm a dork, I know. So, although I won't be at the parks, I am "working" my first paid day tomorrow! I know the day starts off with the "pin ceremony", so it's all going to be totally official then. I'll also be issued my first week's schedule tomorrow. I think I'm going to put in applications all over on my off days & when I find a job that is worth it, I will go to WDW & tell them to work around that schedule. Supposively, they do that willingly & cooperate with the needs of their part time employees who need more than just that to survive. And, if they won't accommodate a second job & that is the one that will keep me afloat financially, then I'll say good-bye. As much as I would hate it, I must work to pay my bills, not to have fun. It all comes down to survival. If they'll work with me when/if I do find something, great...& I have every reason to believe that they will.

Funny side note...shortly after I wrote the initial post in this thread, something else happened. I found out that evening that my purse was missing. I scoured the house, my car, went back to a couple of stores I had been to & even looked around outside. Then, I remembered some things & pieced it all together. I had left my purse at home when I was running up to Burger King to pick up dinner. I realized as we were leaving that I didn't need it because I wasn't driving or paying, so I left my purse on a bookshelf near the front door. When we got back from there, I thought it was weird that the front door seemed to open easier than usual. When I came in, a couple of spindles of CDs that were on the bookshelf were fallen on the floor. I figured maybe someone slammed the door when we left. So, fast forward to today. I've been hysterical because EVERYTHING was in my purse...my $, credit cards, checkbook, ALL of my identification & my kids' socials, pictures, etc., my electronic rolodex, my medication, keys, EVERYTHING. Today, I come home to find a note on my door from my neighbor that says he has something of mine. I go over & they give me my purse!! Turns out, a 13 year old girl who I had seen wandering around my yard & looking in my car before I went to BK is the local "trash". She steals from everyone, runs away from home, uses drugs, etc. She had broken in the house in a hurry, grabbed my purse from the shelf, rifled through it in my back yard & left it by the air conditioner! The neighbors saw it when they were walking my (it's a duplex...they're in the back). My Dopey necklace, Minnie watch, rolodex & $300 are gone, but everything else is here...But WET! :( Could be worse. I haven't been able to cash checks, get money from the bank or do ANYTHING, so it's nice to have my IDs & such back. Tomorrow, I'm going to have a talk with this girl's parents. She got the neighbor's car for quite a bit, too. Lesson learned? My house is too easy to get into. I'm no criminal, but I got in in 10 minutes with a credit card. In this day & age, what house doesn't have a deadbolt????? :(

OK, enough ranting. I'm tired & need to prepare for tomorrow. Wish me luck! I'll be here telling the tale tomorrow. :D I love you guys...y'all are the best!!!

Dawn, can't wait to hear how your first official day went. Also curious to hear the parents' reaction when you confront them about their daughter. Unfortunately I've see too many parents these days that are in such denial about their kids' behavior. I hope that's not the case here. At least you got your cards & id back...it's such a hassle getting all that stuff replaced. I know $300 is more than a little money & the jewelry is probably sentimentally disturbing, but at least you're all safe. You just never know what even kids will do these days!!!!

I'm sending more pixie dust your way along with prayers for you & your grandparents. Just keep focusing on the good stuff!!!

Good grief! :( I'm officially frustrated now. My "Traditions" has been rescheduled for Thursday. I didn't even know they ever do that. I feel like I'll be ready to retire before I ever even get to work. OK, I'm going to keep it together & maintain a level of calm (as I kick the desk). So, here I am, all dressed up to code & sitting here.

Well, I'm going to take this opportunity to go ahead & seek out another part time job around town. I can't waste good clothes & make-up! Besides, I am having a great hair day! :D

So, my update is being put on hold for now. *Grumble*

As for the "burglary", we found out that this girl was staying with someone over here who was trying to help her & her family when she was running away. They just sent her back to her parents, so now I'm trying to find them. My landlord came over out of concern upon hearing about it & they're going to install a deadbolt for us. Yay!

More to come....(isn't there always?) LOL

Gosh Dawn, I don't even know where to start. I'm sure I don't have to tell you that you are in my thoughts and prayers, because you know that. I'm glad to hear everything is getting back to normal with your Grandparents. As far as Disney is concerned, I have heard that they are very easy to work with for part timers. You can't give up on that job now, because since I can't work there, I have to live vicariously through you.;) I've heard Traditions (if you ever actually get to go:D) is lots of fun. Remember our deal, you get to work for Disney, and I let you send me lot's of WDW stuff. :D

"Traditions" is Disney's orientation type class that is held at Disney University. There, you get your name tag, ID & other such trinkets, as well as learning a little more about the job & company.

Chele, something is screwy with your email lately. I keep getting blank emails from you. Yahoo is glitching big time I've noticed. I'll PM you with my # & such. I have a lot to talk to you about, actually. Wanna just come visit? :D Mom's getting married...again (if she remembers to get divorced first LOL), Brandyn's getting married, too. Tell me THAT'S not weird, huh? She seems really sweet though & she seems to be adjusting to my parents ok, so I give her a thumbs up for that. It's been wild around here lately! Hope your mom, Danny & Kayla are doing well. I miss you guys tremendously.
