WDW burial grounds?

This is kind of an odd question, hopefully Mickey or some of the other Disney experts will have some info on this. Does anyone have any info on the rumored WDW burial grounds? Here is what I know: Long ago, before recycling was big, and long before Disney realized that they could make money selling their old theme park props, Disney used to bury their old stuff (old rides, parade floats, monorails, etc.) Years ago, a friend of mine who used to work for Disney took me to where he thought they were. Its off a road near the water treatment and compost plants, far behind the Palm and Magnolia golf courses. Back then the gate blocking the road wasnt locked, but it has been since 9/11. It was probably about a mile and a half down the road. When we got to where these supposed burial grounds are, we came across these huge, football sized fields, about 2 or 3 stories high. I didnt really know what they were, but they were definitely something. Well, when I saw this post recently, http://www.disneycentral.com/forum/s...690#post127690, I checked out the other stuff the seller was auctioning, and the pictures of the old subs in the field with huge mounds in the background made me think that might just be where the subs are being stored now: the WDW burial grounds! I found an aerial image of the area where we were here. I have outlined on an attached image approx. where we were. The red box in the bottom right hand corner is the water treatment plant with Animal Kingdom just below it to the left, not in the picture. For reference, MGM, Epcot, and the MK are up to the top right, also not pictured.

Well, anyone have any info on this? I feel like I'm in an episode of X-files, looking for Area 51!

Thanks!

I'm sorry, I have never heard anything about WDW burial grounds, but being a big X-Files fan, you made me laugh. You're right...it does sound very X-Files. You know, The Truth is out There.

Re: WDW burial grounds?

wouldn't burrying such things be rather illegal??? along the lines of just "dumping"? also, as for old rides, these would have had oil and other such fluids in them, and to just bury them in the ground would be environmental contamination. I wouldn't think Disney would do something that dumb. Plus, metal doesn't decompose, so they wouldn't be able to "reclaim" the land later. Where would the plus be to burrying it as opposed to storing it above ground or creating a cellar for it? Also, why not just melt all the metal down for scrap?

OH I love a good conspiracy theory.

Now, since the land is owned by Disney they can "dump" what ever they want. They can get rid of any fuel etc before they bury any "pieces". If this dumping ground does exist I am sure they no longer bury these treasures but instead they make money off of them (remember this is Disney, they will make money off of ANYTHING! ) or they now recycle.

I would love to hear more on this also!

Re: WDW burial grounds?

i was a little skeptical on looking at this thread because of the title. i took a chance and was relieved once i read what was going on. they bury props and rides? that's weird. why not put them in some kind of museum so future generations can see the props and rides?

Re: WDW burial grounds?

This brings back memories of the Musical Road myth as well...

If you haven't heard, one guest found a road when lost that played music as they drove across it. An anonymous CM verified that Disney tested something like this - but the guest couldn't find it again.

"You have stumbled across an unusual road this stormy August night. As you drive along it, you hear strains of familiar tunes. Is this an odd play of surrounding noise, or have you crossed the threshold into...The Twilight Zone." do-do-do-do...

Re: WDW burial grounds?

Interesting trivia, for sure! I would hope that there is nothing buried, but probably is.

Unfortunately, no. I found someone on another board who was saying that he knew where the subs were, but he wouldnt say.
I wonder if he really knows.
I was hoping that "Mickey" might add some info, he seems to know everything about Disney.
