Hurricane Ivan

Ok so we have had huge files on Charley and Francis, now Ivan is cooking up in the Atlantic, and looking just as bad as Francis did. As of 5 PM today, Ivan was at 125 MPH sustained winds, and moving WNW at 21 MPH, and it is still 820 miles ESE of the Barbados. This puts the storm at a Category 3. The current track put has it at the DR by Thursday, and Eastern Cuba by Friday PM. As the Jimmy Buffet song goes, "It was ninety miles to freedom....". The current track has it scurting across the southern tip of the FL peninsula, so mainly Miami-Dade area, as well as the Keys would be largely affected. It is still to early to tell but this one looks like it may make it to the Gulf. This is yet another storm to keep an eye on...

Here is a link that Parkhopper used in the Frances thread (and it seems VERY accurate). This is the link to the home page http://www.nrlmry.navy.mil/tc_pages/tc_home.html and click the link on the left of the page to Ivan.

Re: Hurricane Ivan

OK latest track has Ivan going well to the west of WDW. All gulf coast states should keep an eye on this one. Winds are down to 135 MPH and it is moving W at 18 MPH.

Re: Hurricane Ivan

So, Ivan is back up to 140mph, but landfall in the US seems to be vary unlikely at this point.

We should now be directing our prayers to those South American countries that are likely to be affected.

So if it makes landfall in S America does that mean it will be a tropical storm after that?? Do hurricanes only make landfall once in its path?? I do not know alot about hurricanes (obviously)

I feel bad for anyone in its path!!! They should be calling it Ivan the Terrible!!!

Re: Hurricane Ivan

I spoke to my friend Sea, who lives in Ocala this morning ..they just got their power and phones back on this morning. She and I were talking about the hurricane that went in to the gulf and turned back toward Florida .. but we couldnt remeber if that was Andrew or Hugo.. It really is so unpredictable as to what a hurricane will do .. it could even fizzle out in the gulf ( I hope ) but my hopes and prayers are for everyone that is in the possible path of any of this season's hurricanes . I am so glad that so many of our DC friends in florida are all ok, safe and sound and I hope they all remain that way
