We are due to leave for the Tampa area in 8 days and due to be in Orlando in 12 days!!

With Ivan on the horizon my DH is VERY worried about going!!! He is pushing to change the whole vacation to the West Coast!! Which I do not want to do!!!!

Anyone have any bright ideas?? I am really hoping for the best and being able to go with no worries but I do understand what my husband is saying!!
I do not want to be at Disney and spend the whole time in a hotel!!!
We have saved long and hard for this vacation and I really want to go and be able to do the things we have planned!!!
What should we do????????????

I thought it looked like Ivan was going up the west coast and mostly in the Gulf. That's how I interpreted the map of his path. I will be in WDW in 12 days too and I am hoping everything will be fine. I hope there isn't one behind Ivan.

Yes I think they are saying that but that is where we will be!! Clearwater Beach is right on the West Coast of Florida along the Gulf!!!

I would go onto WDW!! Ivan is looking like it will keep to the south of WDW. Worst-Case scenario: You get soaked and some rides are closed due to 30 MPH winds.

Whatever you do, hold off on your decision. If you go ahead and cancel now, you will have a bunch of penalties to pay. If you wait, and it looks like it is going to hit WDW, both airlines and WDW will waive any penalties you may have to pay. Even if it does hit WDW, you might have to spend a day in your room/resort. WDW has weathered the past two very well, with some minor horticultural damage.

Hey hey now, the weather is beautiful in CA, and there will never be a hurricane getting in the way of any Disney fun at the DLR. I'd rather be here getting my Disney fix out in beautiful weather than stuck in a hotel in WDW waiting out the rain and wind. Hurricanes do not happen off the Pacific coast - the water is too cold.

(This weekend is ABC Primetime weekend as well...you're not gonna get to meet any TV stars at WDW but you will here!)

I think MIckey's advice is the best .. personally I wouldnt cancel .. I would go any way. You know we were there during Charley, and while we were stuck in our room for an evening, we felt safer there then I have ever felt at home during some of these Texas tornados or strong storms. Also Hurricanes are unpredictiable .. it could totally change course even at the last minute as Charley did.

Thanks for the replies guys!! I literally have been in tears over this!! If it were soley up to me I would go no matter what but my husband is vary wary of all of this weather!!

Does anyone know the impact Ivan is suppose to make on the Tampa area??? I think that is my main concern because our first three days are in Clearwater Beach just outside of Tampa!!

Is there anything else out there besides Ivan??

Ivan is the only other named storm right now. It's path seems to be taking it across southern FL and may miss it altogther. It's unclear as to whether it will go into the middle of the Gulf or stay south. Until they know that, they won't be able to project the effect on Tampa.

Personally, I really think you should hang tight. There's a very good chance that neither Tampa nor WDW will be effected.

I'm scheduled to leave for WDW in 12 days. I have been on every website imaginable tracking Ivan and I'm not convinced that it is going to hit Orlando. I know that you are going to the Tampa area as well, but according to what I have seen on the weather websites, unless Ivan dramatically changes its course you should be fine. One of the websites said that at this point there is only a 21% chance that Ivan will hit the south-west side of the state. I've decided not to cancel my trip. I've been told by people in the Orlando area that the biggest problem at this point is debris from hurricaine Charly, Francis didn't do her worst in that area. I've been told that it isn't as bad as it looks. In your search, type "Florida Weather", you'll get a bunch of hits, I went on most of them, and then made some calls. Monitor the weather, if it starts to look bad the follow your instincts, that is what I'm going to do.

An earthquake would not keep you cooped up in a hotel for days...a little shaking for a few seconds and it's over! I'll take that over constant hurricanes any day.
