The lesser of three evils

I am hoping to secure a full time teaching position in the near future. So, since a teacher can't take off during the school year, any future WDW vacation would have to be during breaks.

If you could only go for a week at either Christmas, spring break, or summer (somewhere between the last week of June until the second week of August) when would you go and why?

I am trying to weigh all the variables such as weather, crowds, park hours, resort "season" and special events (both in parks and sporting events)at any of these times.

Re: The lesser of three evils

I guess I'd choose Christmas. Principally because Florida summer heat kills me and makes the trip so very hard to enjoy.

Spring break I'd avoid simply because there are a LOT of people who are letting off steam and it's so crowded sometimes that they seal off parks and don't let anyone else in.

Christmas is crowded, but because of the cooler weather, it should be more enjoyable. Also, a lot of folks don't seem to stay as late, so there's more opportunity to avoid lines.

Depends on when your Spring Break is. If it is early, say first week of March, I would go then. The weather is nice, and the crowds are pretty low. It will be expensive. Your other option is to go right after you get out for Chirstmas, if it is prior to 12/20. You can still get value season rates, and a couple of days of low crowds.

Re: The lesser of three evils

I would do Christmas break. I HATE to be hot and sweaty and stand in the sun all day, and DH feels the same, so summer is out for us. Spring break..well I have read many horror stories about Disney crowds during Spring Break, so that is out for us as well. If you go during Christmas time, you can see all the decorations and not have a heat stroke. Plus the parks close earlier so that would give you some extra, relaxing family time to go to a nice meal or to DTD to shop. That way you guys don't get burned out by going to parks all day and well into the night. It may be colder during December, but nothing a nice new Disney sweatshirt and a nice, warm cup of hot cocoa or coffee can't fix.

I also wanted to add, if you can get there during value season(prior to Dec 20th) you will get the value rate for the whole stay instead of having to pay the holiday rate(which, to me, is an insane amt of money for some of the hotels!) We are going Dec 18th and staying for 5 days and we are paying the value rate for every night even though part of our stay is considered Holiday rates. For whatever day you book, you pay that rate throughout the entire stay no matter if the rates go up or not. So you get the benefits of going during Christmas but don't have to pay the crazy holiday rates!
Spring break rates are quite high as well.

I would choose Christmas. But couldn't you save your days and take a week off, I know several S. Fl teachers who do this.

Re: The lesser of three evils

If you secure a position in a year round school, your breaks will be scattered throughout the year. I taught in a year round school and I would work 3 months on, and then have one month off. So I would have 3 months off a year still, but they would be something like February, June, and October, or January, May, and September.

Hmmm hard one. I would go as soon as school let out...like the next day. June isn't that bad. July and August, however I wouldn't do again...I melted I sware. christmas is insane and Easter isn't much better, os that would leave June if it were me choosing. Good luck with the position. Please let me know how you make out....pixie dust coming to you for good luck.

Re: The lesser of three evils

Our schools here in Central Texas let out around May 25th each year. If that is a possiblity, that is when I would go (and we ARE leaving the day lets out!!). It works out very nicely.

I agree with Mickey, Spring Break would be my next choice, depending on when it is. Our spring break is usually the 2nd or 3rd week of March. It wasn't too crowded (more than I expected, but not horrible) when we went his past March.

We went the first 2 weeks of December in 2000. The first days were great...our last day was like December 18th and the waits were 100 minutes plus.
