Icon5 What Do They Put in the Air

You know, I consider myself to be a man's man. I'm an outdoorsman. I can work on my car. My hands are calloused from years of manual labor...

...but when it comes to WDW, I turn into this entirely different person, who plans every minute of the trip. Yesterday, I went out an bought a Snow White dress for my 2 year old daughter to wear to the MK. And late at night, I've been making "goody bags" for our Magical Gathering (decorating autorgraph books, creating character scavenger hunts, making personalized Thank you cards for cast members, and ordering trading pins & lanyards.)

My wife thinks Disney is putting me in touch with my feminine side. But I know the manager of a HARDWARE STORE who thinks Disney pumps something into the air, because he gets the same way.

So are there any other "macho" men out there who feel they've been infected with pixie dust? Or am I just an odd duck?

I'm over 6 foot tall, 200 pounds with very short shaved ginger hair I like violent sports and action films..... what I really want from WDW is my picture taken with tiger, count me in.

Considering in his costume tigers going to be essentually a tall ginger character its going to be a spot the difference contest.

Re: What Do They Put in the Air

Most people consider me a manly man...the only thing I dont do that's "manly" is love cars and know all about them...but I definitely turn into something different when I know that I am going...:-) No shame in it!

Speaking as a woman, there is nothing more manly than a guy flying in Dumbo with his 3 year old.

As for what they put in the air, I know they pump the smell of baking cookies onto main street in front of the bakery... :) Maybe that's the cause...?

Re: What Do They Put in the Air

Well let's see, during high school ( and a bit in the Army ) was a catcher, served 6 years in the Army during the early '70s, spent 10 years riding around on a Harley afterwards, I rebuild houses for a living and rebuild old cars for a hobby, probably have every hand and power tool you could want. Raced motorcycles in the moutains and on flat tracks. And now the toughest of all, I coach a team of 14 year old softball playing girls! I think I got the whole macho thing down pat.

That all changes every time I start thinking about WDW. Right now I am trying to work out the logistics for taking our whole team down over President's Day weekend for a tournament at the Disney Wide World Of Sports. ( would definitly cut a few days off of the old trip counter )

When we start planning for a trip my DW stares in amazement as my DD and I go thru the videos and decide what we want to do each trip. Oh and you should have seen me talking my DW into buying the Cinderella's Castle Christmas decoration last year. "But Honey, it will look so nice as the center piece to our village."

What ever it is they put in the air, sure does mellow me out like nothing else on earth!

I can safely say that my DH is a manly man too... always rode his harley, was a tool and die maker for medical companies, but when his little girl said lets go to Disney he could not get there fast enough. He even rode the carasal with her LOL This 6ft 250lb man on the carosal...ºoºJudy

Re: What Do They Put in the Air

While I've certainly demonstrated my "sensitive" side here at DC and I'm not the typical "man's man" in that I don't play golf and I'm not into the "goin out with the guys thing", there's no question who's the dad and who's the mom at home.

I'm Mr. Fixit. I hate hiring contractors and it's only over the last few years that I've completely abandoned the idea of changing my own oil. However, I did change my tire by the side of a highway, without gloves in 20 degree (F) weather.

So, I think that qualifies me for membership in the "guys' club."

But IllumiNations made me cry in May and I'm like a giddy schoolgirl looking forward to our Christmas trip in December.

I think it's subliminal advertising.

But you're still handsome, right?

And Matt, you're doing that "just like my DH" - you're obsessive-compulsive, love WDW and you hate contractors....it's just scary sometimes.

Sounds like a great guy. Is he charming and attractive too?

'Cuz if he is, that's where the similarities end.

Re: What Do They Put in the Air

Great thread, BTW. While I can say that I have never decorated custom autograph books, or anything that you mentioned, there is something in the air. The reason I love Disney is that it allows you to become a kid again. No worries, just fun. Nothing like sneaking out of your convention to hop on the MK railway and grab a hot dog from Casey's.

I am taking my daughter to Disneyland next week on a surprise trip (surprise for her). I am so excited that I have problems sleeping, and I know I will blow it before we leave. The thing I am most looking forward to is her smile, and the fact that she will have three entire days that she can decide what to do and drag me along. With four siblings, she doesn't get to voice her opinion much.

Mickey that is sooo cool! This upcoming trip was to be a surprise, but DD was having a bad day and we had told her that we were going to TN, and she was not happy and I finally gave in and told her... now it's all she talks about! She is sooo excited! good luck on keeping it a surprise!

Yes, and self-deprecating, too.

Mickey - We did a surprise trip last year for our 3 kids. It was great - the looks of their faces when we got to WDW. We didn't have any problems at all keeping the secret!!
