Character Conditioned!
Character Conditioned!
After spending three vacations with Disney Characters throughout the Parks and especially Character meals - I'm "Character Conditioned". Not long after returning from our last WDW vacation, Wal Mart opened a new super store in our area. I was attending the grand opening with my niece and when I saw a "Character" I smiled and waved. My niece, who is a mother of teens, turned to me and informed me we were NOT at WDW and that I looked silly waving to Chester Cheetah. :weird: When she saw the Pillsbury Dough Boy coming our way she suddenly disappeared. Oh, Well! I smiled and waved to him too. They both waved back. I don't know what they thought of a little old lady interacting with them - but it sure did make me homesick for WDW. :D :D

Nope~~you're not alone! We just returned from visiting Rock City in Chattanooga, TN. I greatly embarrased my three oldest sons by shouting, "Look! There's Rocky the Rock City goblin!" They refused to have their pic taken with him :hmmm even though they have absolutely no qualms about having their pics made with Disney characters! LOL :D

Man where were you guys 12 years ago when I was dressing up like a big Alligator (Uncle Al) for the fast food chain I worked at? I used to have to wave at cars and occasionally received the exact opposite of Disney spirit, namely the one fingered kind!:( Oh well actually most of the people were great and it was a lot of fun.:D I did gain a small perspective of what the Disney Characters go through. Mostly for me it was a complete lack of awareness for anything that was not happening directly in front of me.

LOLOL!! what a funny thread!!
My cousin was "A Friend of Mickey's, Minnie's, and the Cinderella mice" (wink, wink, nudge nudge - can I say that here?) Mostly it was Mickey. She was at Disney World and on the Big Red Boat - she can tell me some absolutely horrific stories about Guests, but mostly great ones. She's proposed to Guests, helped marry Guests, and even got to "drive" Cinderella's carriage. I'm dying to go to WDW with her, but she's still refusing to go back... :( I would love to hear the stories she has. She has a fantastic scrapbook. I try to make sure to always wave at the characters. Somewhere out there is another cousin just eating up their stories! :D

This is a funny thread...I too do that with characters. I remember when smokey the bear came to meet with my daughters Scout Troop, all of the girls were really excited and I had my camera out...felt just like Disney World lol
I miss wdw, I have been having some hard times in my life and I really miss seeing the castle and the sites and sounds of Disney, but I especially miss the wonderful characters. I know it has to be a hard job and probably very stressful for them at times, but they bring so much joy to so many people. "Three cheers for the characters":) :) :)

am I the only one?
Ok .. I know there is a castmember in there ..but when I see the disney characters its ..mmm not sure how to explain it ..but they are real to me :) disneyaunt, dont feel bad .. we cant help it if we have a *disney mentality*
MickeyMac over the years we have talked to castmembers and heard just awful stories about how characters have been treated ..even one really sad disgusting one about a father hitting mickey mouse because his kid didnt get an autograph.. those kind of things are what you teach your children .. when your child see's you acting like such a uncontroled jerk they think its ok. I can remember adults running to get to the old Mickey Show in Mickey's starland and literally knocking other peoples children down :( the same when the gate dropped at the castle ..adults grabbing up thier children and running with them for dumbo .. no mind that they might harm someone or someone else's child in the rush to be first or get the best seat :( there are so many moments we have on video tape of the girls with different characters ..and each smile is just something that makes my heart melt ..but there is this one smile .. when barbie was 2 .. at MGM ..she had been trying to get to mickey to hug him ..and it took a while and she was shoved and even had adults get in front of her ....but when she finally got to hug *her* Mickey Mouse she turned back to us and that smile lite the world that day!!!

Funny Thread! I might have been one of those adults knocking people over to get to Mickey! LOL I never pushed little kids out of the way! I hated it when people from other countries stepped right in front of me. I hope it is better there now! Can't wait for my boys (8 and 5) to see WDW. Lisajl

Very funny this thread came up...
My nephew and our family went to a local pizza place last weekend when we saw a weird looking "Mickey" (he was wearing a paper mache head and a race suit). My nephew, being a huge Mickey fan, immediately got all wide-eyed and reached his arms out to hug Mickey...until he realized that it was not the real Mickey. He's 6, so he thought that was the funniest thing ever. Luckily, we're going in December, so he'll see the real one very soon!! :) |

I got a kick out of this thread! My 3 1/2 yr old daughter who is VERY into the characters and I were at our neighborhood grocery store when they were doing a back to school promo. They had the store mascot walking around greeting kids. My daughter got so excited and yelled, "Quick mommy get my autograph book!" She was quite disappointed when I told her it was at home. After explaining that her autograph book is for Disney characters she said we need to get one for grocery store ones too. Guess what we made when we got home? hee hee!!:D
