Taking kids out of school letter

Well our trip is quickly approaching. I've spoken with the kids' teachers and principal and told them of our trip. I even sent in notes at the beginning of the year with the dates and told them we'd like any homework they can give us for that time so they won't be behind. Everyone has been really great and supportive.

I found this letter and saved it to my Disney file so I don't know who originally wrote it. So I appologize for just stealing it without asking BUT I used it and modified it slightly to fit our trip and sent it in yesterday. I thought you all would get a kick out of it too if you haven't seen it before. Last night was our PTO meeting and my kids' teachers as well as other teachers that they showed it to LOVED it and told me how cute they thought it was. One teacher even walked up to Jessie and said, "You're the one with WDWitis". So here it is, use it yourself it you like it and if you are the original author of it THANK YOU so much.

Dear administrators,

We have just found out that my son is suffering from WDWitis. Apparently, this is an extremely contagious condition that is spreading rapidly thru our family. We have consulted local experts and unfortunately, there are no treatment centers or specialist in our area. As a result, my son will be absent from school for 3 or 4 days while we travel to Florida to get him treatment for his condition.

We will be getting him treatment at the World's best treatment centers - MK, MGM, AK and EPCOT. At the EPCOT center, we will be able to consult doctors from all over the World as well as take a look into how the body functions. We will be able to get him animal therapy at the AK, anti-depression therapy at the MK, and there is a hotel/tower at the MGM center that will take the ups and downs out of his condition.

Also, the top specialist, including the world renowned Dr. Mickey Mouse and Dr. Donald Duck, in treating WDWitis are located in this region. He will also be able to receive therapy there with the top therapist in the industry including the world Dr. Goofy and Mrs. Tinkerbell.

I also modified the letter and will give it to my toddler's preschool the day before we leave (Nov 4). I thought it was too cute!

Like I said, I'm not the original author, I can't even remember for sure where I found it but I thought it was cute to share and since our teachers/school have enjoyed it I thought others might too.

Boss!? How about the DH? My DH just doesn't understand my 'condition'. But then, he has never been there either. I keep telling him he has to go next year. He would rather go fishing up north. Go figure!

BTW, I love the letter!

Re: Taking kids out of school letter

Love the letter! But how well did your children do with missing a week of school? I plan on taking my girls out of school in a few years to go back again, but worry about all that they will miss (or I may just be a worry wart). I have also heard stories where teachers complain about children being taken out of school for trips. Any teachers out there have any comments? My DD#1 is in preschool this year and her teacher thinks it is great that we are going.....how much will that change in a few years? I just can't bring myself to go to DW during the summer. I went there in July as a child and just remember it being sooooo crowded. We have gone in the fall since then and loved every minute. Also has anyone found a better time to take the kids out of school. Fall vs. Spring. Thanks for all the advice in advance.

Great letter. I am glad the response from the school administration was not negative. When Dana was new to DC, she posted about a negative response to such a letter. http://www.disneycentral.com/forum/s...ht=Dana+school

There are and always will be those kinds of people that have a problem with taking the kids out of school on non vacation days.
I for one am taking my kids out of school as long as they produce A's and B's. November is the only time during the year where we can get away for a prolonged period of time and I will do it every time.
Our school administrators know our situation and would never have a problem with that, we have a very small school, 600 students K-12. They have known that we are going this year, but the letter is so cute, I'll send it just for the fun of it.

Re: Taking kids out of school letter

Whlle I have never had a negative experience with my kid's teachers regarding taking a vacation during school, I had to re-think my approach when our school system came out with an official policy against this practice. I too had read similar problems from other parents dealing with teachers.

My decision, then and now, is that it is my child and my business where we go and what we choose to do. So now I simply write a letter that states "we will be out of town for family reasons."

It hasn't failed me yet.
