read any good books lately?

My dad is so hard to buy for ~ but he loves to read as I do. But he's more into the Clancey novels, James Patterson and Steven King. What's a good new one to get him for Christmas?

Re: read any good books lately?

I enjoyed The Davinci Code, but if your father really enjoys reading I will venture a guess and say that he read this.
Some new ones out are Michael Crichton's State of Fear. I generally enjoy his works. Also Nelson Demille has a new one (although his old ones are good too.) called Night Fall. Go onto Barnes and Noble and they will give you a summary of what these books are about.

Old ones that I enjoyed and your father may not have read are
Harlan Coben's Tell No One as well as No Second Chance. I found these to be fast paced like James Patterson's.

I also enjoy Tom Wolfe. He did Bonfire of the Vanities, but his A Man in Full is one of my favorite books of all time. I am now reading his new one called I am Charlotte Simmons.

I would definitely check out a website such as Barnes & Noble. They have things broken down by category and even show what else customers bought that may have bought something your father enjoyed. They also have bestsellers and new books.

Good luck.

I'm just finishing up "Teach Yourself UML". Does that count?

Tigger ~ what UML?

Thanks for the suggestions ~ He read the The Davinci Code since that was what I was going to get him, but checked with Mom about it first.

UML is unified modeling language...not a good plot but it was a page turner for me

It is a diagraming language that allows you to visual show how something works.

Re: read any good books lately?

I highly recommend "The five people you meet in heaven". Excellent story and a quick, easy read.

Re: read any good books lately?

Clive Cussler has a new(er) book out with his original hero: Dirk Pitt. The book is called Trojan Odyssey. If you dont know who Cliver Cussler is, he wrote the book called Raise the Titanic. A not-so-hot movie was made based on his book, but the book is awesome!!!

Hey Bluesilver71....how was Odd Thomas? I have been thinking about getting it.

Darth, is Clive Cussler any good or is he mainly a writer for the guys?
