Digital Camera in WDW

Ok ~ here's my problem.

I've got two memory cards which will hold up to about 150 pictures total at a good quality. I'm one of those click happy people. I know 150 will not be enough for 10 days in WDW. What does everyone else do? I don't feel like smacking down another 50 bucks for another memory card. I was thinking about visiting Walmart one night and have the pictures transfered to disk ~ they have the machines here ~ do they have them in FL? Also, if my camera (or my disk) goes through an xray machine at the airport, will it wipe out the memory card? (I've heard of this happening to laptops ~ not sure if that's an urban ledgen or not)

Re: Digital Camera in WDW

What are the pixels set for on your camera? You could lower the quality of the picture and get more photos.

Re: Digital Camera in WDW

I carry my digital camera on the plane with me and have put it through x-ray machines many times and have never had a problem. I suggest you bring all your camera accessories with you because the prices at WDW are very high. Joe

Re: Digital Camera in WDW

Last year we took about 160+/- pictures with two 64mb cards. We were there about twelve days. At the end of the day we would edit and/or remove shots we didn't like, saved a lot of space.

Re: Digital Camera in WDW

We take 500+ pictures on our trips. So if it were me, I'd either buy another one with more mb or if you plan on going off site every couple of days, you could run to walmart and have them put your photos on a cd, then you wouldn't need to buy a new one.

We have found some really good deals on memory cards at www.slickdeals.net

Re: Digital Camera in WDW

Jen,
I have a few friends who use the same cards. I just borrow from them and promise to replace the card were I to lose it.

Also, today (Dec 24) you might be able to find cards on sale at Wal-Mart--if you're willing to fight the crowds.

We're taking our laptop with us in January. We download our pictures as well as our digital video every night so we have a fresh start every day. We've never had any problem with the xray machines.

Re: Digital Camera in WDW

If you're still into the Walmart/CD idea, we have them in FL. There's the Walmart machine and the Kodak machine. Beware when trying to use the Kodak one, our Walmarts (NW FL) are always saying they have no paper, CDs, etc to make you use theirs. Sometimes a 1 hr wait just isn't in my plans...

Re: Digital Camera in WDW

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

I was planning on bringing our laptop be for it took a turn for the worse ~ we sold if off in parts on ebay.

That's a great idea, Jeff ~ but I don't know anyone with a digital camera (we don't get out much lol)

I think, since we are staying off site any way, that if I find that I've got too many pic I don't want to delete, I will head to walmart and have them saved to disk.

16 1/2 days!!!!

Re: Digital Camera in WDW

Jen,

The bad news...I have lost pictures sending my memory cards thru an X-ray. It actually scrambled it and I was able get about half of them off. Most memory cards come with a little case. I would suggest using that and "walking" it thru the metal detector (I do this and have never set off the MD).

The good news...If you have a digital camera with a LCD screen you can preview your pics at night back at the room and delete the ones you know are bad (focus, lighting, cropped heads, etc). We do this and free up a bunch of space.

You might want to check the onsite stores if you run out. You never no what you might find...like more memory for you camera!

I have to say that I carry about 512M of cards with me and snap a lot of picts and have never run out of space.

Re: Digital Camera in WDW

The parks have a system (at mk and Contemporary) that will allow you to transfer your info onto a disk. If that system is not working,(which happened to us) it can be sent out and picked up later (one day at most). It cost about $14.00. Well worth no having to buy another memory card for $70!!!!

Re: Digital Camera in WDW

$14? Yikes! I guess if you're staying onsite and need more memory that's good. I say take the thing to Wally World, plop down $4, and go.
