Re: I need to vent for a sec...
We made a sports team trip to WDW a few years ago with my daughter's club soccer team. They played games at Wide World of Sports and a couple other sites around Orlando and stayed at All-Star Sports. It was a nice trip. We arrived a couple days early (stayed at a DTD hotel for a couple nights) and then remained at All-Star Sports for a few days after the soccer tournament was over. During the tournament, however, it was all-business. Curfews for the players, meals together, etc. (You almost forgot you were at Disney.)

Re: I need to vent for a sec...
I know how you feel. We stayed at PC in Dec. during Pop Warner. PC had the over flow of cheerleaders from All Stars. They were kept in a different area from us so it wasn't too bad. But the parks were packed. I couldn't believe it early Dec. I always heard were not crowded at all. But after the cheerleaders left the parks were empty. So maybe you will have a little break in between. I hope everything works out for you.

Re: I need to vent for a sec...
Sorry to hear about your plans. ALthough being a 20 year old guy that sounds lke the trip of a lifetime to me, I mean being at WDW with that many cheerleaders sounds great, but then again I am a 20 year old guy. I do agree that cheerleaders can get on my nerves sometimes but I guess I would have to suffer through the apin of being stuck with them. lol (only a little sarcasm in the last sentence on my part) Again I'm sorry that this happened during your trip. I hope you can make the best of it still.

Hey, I am a 16 year old guy, and while yes having some of the cheerleades and baton twirlers will be there nice, but I don't want them crowding the parks or anything like that. I just can't stand the stereo-typical cheerleaders: the totally 100% ditsy ones. Those are the ones I can't stand.

Re: I need to vent for a sec...
I have been there during softball, baseball, and even cheerleading. My niece was one of the cheerleaders and we never saw her she was so busy practicing. But softball and baseball turned me off. PC was swarming with unsupervised kids and drunk parents.
If you are really concerned about sports groups invading, check the website for Disney's Wide World of Sports, You can find out who will be there when you are. and plan accordingly.

Believe me, I've been where you're going to be. (a) one of my first trips to Disneyland---I was only 10 years old, and this group of middle school cheerleaders was on the same plane as us headed for Disneyland. One of them ended up sitting right next to me and talking my ear off the ENTIRE TIME. Literally, she never stopped talking for the 2-1/2 hour flight. We have it on video.(b) when I worked at Disneyland, I witnessed lots of cheerleading camps on Disneyland trips, and they'd be "normal" for about the first five minutes. Then "we're at Disney" would set in and it would be screaming, jumping up and down, disturbing every guest around them. But like I said before, they're usually not just there to run around the parks. They've got lots of other things to deal with, and so give them a little credit for being excited when they DO get to run around the parks. They're usually given strict curfews and very short windows of time in which to play. It won't be that bad!!! Chin up!

Ohhh give cheerleaders a little credit!! As a former cheerleader and present cheerleading coach and the high school i work at--i must defend the sport--yes it is a sport :)
just kidding...disneyguy you will havea great time...im sure most kids will be in practices and competitions and spend little time in the parks--its the way it usually goes---dont worry about it until you get there--you cant let your trip start of with a mopey note!

Re: I need to vent for a sec...
hey disneyguy... here is a funny story for you! Last trip, we were at the Marriott World Center, and the place was CRAWLING with pre-teen cheerleader/dancing type girls! There were hundreds of them and they were all on big teams in matching clothes, and I swear I am not exaggerating when I say that they were sitting EVERYWHERE -- in the aisles of the bar, on the floor of the lobby, around the pool, even in teh corners of the gift shop! And their moms were all very busy (I know this will sound like a big fib, but it is NOT!) putting all the girls' hair up in iDENTICAL ponytails on the very tops of their heads, and then putting curlers into the hair in the ponytails! When the hairdo was finished, they all looked like martians, and they wore their heair this way everywhere!!! (Picture a girl balancing a grapefruit on her head and you get the idea!) And when they went swimming, they put specially made bags over the knobs of curlers on top of their heads!
It was way beyond wierd, and my kids found it endlessly amusing. But I can tell you that it was not inconvenient in any way!

Re: I need to vent for a sec...
Well, I'm gonna step in and defend the cheerleaders. I've been there. Granted, I was never a cheerleader, always the jock, but I've taken a number of team trips to WDW and other Orlando parks. They don't get to run around as much as people think. We always had very strict curfews - no swimming after 8, in the rooms by 9, light's out at 9:30, etc. We only had a day or two at the parks.
They're there for competition. Not the parks. Cut 'em a little slack. They've worked their butts off - HARD - to get into the competition. And they made it. They deserve a few days vacation like everyone else. I know they'll be 'crowding up the park' for a day or so, but they're having fun - just like the other visitors will be. |
