What is the most you have paid for a vacation?

Hopefully this is not to personal but I was wondering what is the most people have paid for a vacation? I grew up not going on many vacations. I have been on a few since married but I don't think I have ever spent more than $4000 (and that was a lot to me) I have also not spent more than $150 per night on a room. I know many here stay in the deluxe resorts. So, I'm just fishing because I'd love to branch out some day and up my mental "limit" on what others spend. I just need the guts to do it!

Re: What is the most you have paid for a vacation?

This upcoming trip will be our most expensive. We will be spending around 3,000 and that is staying at a deluxe and includes our airfare, tickets and most meals.

We spent around $3000. We booked our trip just last month and paid too much for airfare.

Re: What is the most you have paid for a vacation?

My one and only expensive trip was to Disney. Never had a big trip growing up. Like you, I had never stayed in an expensive hotel. I stayed in the Contemporary for my once in a lifetime trip ti DisneyWorld. I imagine that I spent $4,500 for that vacation. I flew to Orlando, had a limo pick us up and stayed at the deluxe hotel. We stayed 6 nights/7 days. I planned the trip 13 months in advance and may payments to Disney every payday (some not so big, but they took it just the same). By the time the trip came round the room was paid off.

Now I am trying to afford a trip next January! Maybe my not so once in a lifetime trip. This time I will drive (20 hours), eat in the car on the way down, stay at the PC, and cut way back on other stuff. It is cut back or not go at all.

Re: What is the most you have paid for a vacation?

I think it depends on what you are doing. Our most expensive vacation was spent traveling through Greece (3 of us, pre-dd), yet we stayed in places like $30 a night pensions. But it included airfare to Europe, and a month of eating out, etc.

But if we go to someplace like Vegas, drive, and only stay for a couple of nights, we are more likely to stay in a more expensive hotel.

Re: What is the most you have paid for a vacation?

I haven't really kept track of what we spend at WDW, the last 2 trips have been around $3,000, I think. We also went to a dude ranch last summer that ended up coming to about $4,800 for the 3 of us after we tipped for the week. Last summer was the first time we have done 2 really big trips in one summer, we usually try to go on one big trip and a couple of weekend trips over the summer.

Re: What is the most you have paid for a vacation?

My impromptu trip to Vegas(family member's wedding) for myself and DH for 2 nights/3days over president's weekend at the Luxor(don't stay there $400), food($120), minor attractions($60), cab fare/tips($60 at least) and very little souviners/gambling($200+), and airfare($600) cost me almost half of what our Disney trip with 3 kids is going to cost us this spring for 6 nights(2 rooms) at PC($800 awsome dis code), gas to drive both ways($300+), food($650+), souveniers($400+), MMW park hoppers ($1000). And that is why I am on the every 2 year plan(wishful thinking). I haven't figured out how to have a week in disney for a family of 5 under $3000 and not lose some magic. That's using discount codes on value resorts, a couple charachter meals but mostly counter service. Last trip (youngest was free for park) and it ran around the same.

After my experiences with spending big money on hotels in the past, I will never do it again. I don't have to live there just sleep there and I have seen some cheap hotels that end up being alot nicer than the expensive.

But.... if I ever get my Disney Cruise. I priced that out at about $8000- Uh! not going to happen in this life time(says DH in the background)

Re: What is the most you have paid for a vacation?

The most we have ever spent was $3000 on our Christmas vacation this past year.( Family of 4)
For that $3000 we drove to Orlando and Did 2 days at parks w/ 3 nights at POFQ. We ate 3 meals that were all close to $100 w/ tip. We bought souveniers (don't count that b/c we used our Disney rewards).
$1000 was about the total for Disney hotel, tickets, food and snacks
$900 was plane tickets to Oregon
$400 was a rental van for 10 days
$80 to park our van in MCO for 10 days
$75 for a hotel at PDX airport
$500 roughly..was for food, activities, gas, Christmas gifts, and a little gambling at the Casino in Oregon.

That was the MOST we've ever spent on vacation. Until this past year, Disney was always done w/ military tickets, cheap hotel off site and counter food or McD's in Orlando for food and we never did more than 5 days each time. I'd say we never spent over $700 and that was for everything.

We are doing some island trips once we move to Hawaii and so far, I have those vacations at 6 to 7 days and after airfare, rental car, hotel, activities, food, etc..it is coming to around $2500 per trip. We are finally in a financial position to be able to spend that much on a vacation, and we are going to take every opportunity to do so! Ah life sure does get better as you get older! lol

Re: What is the most you have paid for a vacation?

Our most expensive Disney vacation was about 3 grand for hotel, airfare, food etc. Our most expensive vacation ever was probably Belize. We went for ten days over Christmas and spent about 8 grand on hotels, airfare ($2500 alone), activities, scuba diving including our advanced open water certification, souvenirs etc... This was more expensive than 3 weeks in Europe because we chose to stay in high end places in Belize for comfort, food safety etc. while in Europe we used the train and stayed in pensions etc.

Re: What is the most you have paid for a vacation?

Other then our honeymoon in Hawaii, WDW is our big dollar vacation. With all expenses included for four people we spend about $5,000.00 per trip, but that includes airfare, meals, and keepsakes.

Re: What is the most you have paid for a vacation?

My most expensive vacation was This past January at WDW. We did the AP's ($700ish). airfare ($376) towncar to airport at home ($85) towncar at WDW ($125), 3 nights with 2 rooms at AKL ($785), 3 nights at the Polynesian ($767), MYW 3 day pass($210ish), 2 single day tickets ($120), vouchers ($322), meals not used with vouchers ( $300), goodies $800. My trip in October is going to be half that easy. That trip was a once in a lifetime all out trip. I loved every second of it.

Re: What is the most you have paid for a vacation?

I think so far our little 3 week christmas trip is costing about $15,000... not including food or keepsakes. Usually we spend about $7,000 for a 2 week trip to WDW. We have spent $4,000 for a 1 week vacation just staying in the UK.
We find it generally cheaper to fly to WDW if you can believe that!
