Want to fund my WDW trip???

:( the more I think about everything goign on, the more I am scared that I may have to postpone our trip untill later in the year.

Problem is I only get one chance at vacation time from work and it has to be before June.

I told my wife that we can eaither pay all our bill son time and postpone our trip till next year, or we can pay only part of our bills and go on our trip and maybe (maybe not) have money for Disney stuff and catch up our bills when we get home.

Bills stink :p

Re: Want to fund my WDW trip???

I agree. Bills stink. I scrapped the bills last year and went to Disneyland for a weekend instead. It was worth it, but it took me a while to catch up. Probably not the best idea I ever had.

Good luck Milo! I really hope you guys can still go!!!

Re: Want to fund my WDW trip???

I am one of those people who pay all the bills on time and never have a balance on the credit card. DH and I can't stand to have debt, so we would not enjoy ourselves if we went to Disney knowing we owed our bills. It might be a personal preference, but I would rather have no worries while on vacation, so my suggestion would be to pay the bills and try to save up enough to go to Disney.

Re: Want to fund my WDW trip???

We always try to prepay as much as we can before the disney trip. We do not have alot of outstanding debts and the little we have is very minimal. We pay for the room ahead of time, and we have seasonal tickets so that is taken care of. We even charge up the sunpass for tolls ahead of time so all that is left is food, gas, and misc spending.

Bills will always be there.

I read this thread earlier and didn't want to jump right in. The water appears to be warm now. I feel and do the same as Pooh. I would pay the bills first. Don't do it if it would put you futher into debt. Like Pooh said save a little more and pay those bills off.

Good advice Pooh!!

Re: Want to fund my WDW trip???

I can't find it now; but, there was a guy on e-bay recently auctioning off the opportunity to pay for his vacation with the kids etc to WDW. His theory is that so many people are too busy to take the time for a vacation. So, he would provide you with pictures, souvenirs etc without you having to take time out of your busy schedule to actually go on vacation. I think the minimum bid was something like $5000. Maybe I should get ebaying!

Re: Want to fund my WDW trip???

I'd take care of the bill first, then go after enough is saved up...even if it meant I had to delay the trip.
Bills come first for us..after the bills are paid each month, we have a DIsney/vacation pot we put into, and we don't go until we have enough saved up. Makes for a much nicer, less stressful vacation. The last thing I want on my mind at Disney is bills I am behind on.

Re: Want to fund my WDW trip???

Well, I agree with the majority here: bills stink, but it behooves me to pay my bills before I go into more debt to take a vacation.

Milo, perhaps if you postpone your vacation 'til next year you will have that much longer to look forward to your trip to WDW. (I always try to think of the cup as half full. ) There are always specials and new things to see at WDW, so I think that you will not necessarily miss out on anything (besides instant gratification) if you wait.

Re: Want to fund my WDW trip???

I don't know what your bills are Milo but I would suggest paying them off and as you do that set a side a little every month in savings. Then you can celebrate having your bills payed off with a payed for trip to WDW. With the added bonus of not having bills when you get back!

Re: Want to fund my WDW trip???

I agree with everyone else, pay your bills first and if you can swing a WDW trip after that then go. We always have money set aside for Disney trips before we go--no money, no trip. We had a few years early in our marriage that we couldn't take vacations because the money wasn't there. Now that we are better established we can afford to take a vacation every year.

Just think, if you have to put your trip off until next year you will have all that time to plan and save--you could have a great trip! If you go this year you will have to think about every dollar you spend.

Re: Want to fund my WDW trip???

While we are on the subject of funding I would just like to say I will have to take our change jug in this week! It usually takes us 6 months to fill it (any loose change at the end of the day goes in the a very large jug). That will go into our vacation saving account.

Then we start again with an empty jar.

Re: Want to fund my WDW trip???

I have to agree with all the bill paying people, unless there is a "we need to take this trip, before it's too late" trip. I would love to go to disney every year, but we just can justify a trip that often. I like the idea of paying ahead. I really like the idea of the dining plan. I know that I would not be able to go down and enjoy a sitdown meal for 80 dollars, when I know we can eat 4 counter meals for the same price. BUT, if it was already paid for, I would have a great time. Disney is great, but it's not worth paying the credit card interest or ruining my credit rating.

I would agree with everyone else and say to pay the bills and then go to disney once you have money saved up. We have done the "let's forget about the bills and go to WDW anyway" and it took us a long time to get caught up. I don't think we will do that again!

we do that too, I have 2 jars, one for pennies and one for other change. We even roll them ourselves so we don't have to pay the fee for the change machine.
