Disney buys Universal Studios

I just heard on the news this morning that Disney is buying Universal Studios. This merger is the first major decision by the new CEO, Robert Iger. From what I understand, this merger will include the purchase of Universal Studios in Orlando and Hollywood. The report also said that they are considering adding to the monorail to connect Universal Orlando and WDW.

I am not sure how I feel about this. This is sorta bitter sweet. While Universal is not up to the same standard as WDW, I think Disney will do a great job enhancing Universal's current themes. On the other hand, I am afraid Disney has bit off more than it can chew. I don't think two separate locations will be very inviting for some guests, but we will see how they handle that.

I just hope they don't raise ticket prices to cover this acquisition!!!

Re: Disney buys Universal Studios

What makes you think that? If it's on the news, it must be true.

Here's the picture that was in the news. As you can see, they've already modified the Universal globe. Robert looks pretty natural as a tourist!!!

Universal the theme park, or including the movie and television studios? I don't know how Orlando operates, but the theme park is only a small portion of Universal Hollywood. Most of it are real working movie and television studios, sets, and lots that the public doesn't have access to.

Disney owns Miramax and ABC, so I suppose it's not that far out there.

You almost had me there!!! What a great idea! I wonder if someone could bring them together to broker a deal! Universal needs an organization like Disney!

Wow MJD!!! That is an awesome picture. Now that the globe has ears, I am sure the improvements to Universal will be outstanding!!!

It's cool that no matter what side of the globe you're on, the ears are always facing you. Kinda like Mickey.
