Southwest Airlines

Need opinions. We are going to try them this summer. They are by far the cheapest fare I can find. So what's the catch?

Re: Southwest Airlines

Southwest for whatever reason always has great deals...no catch that I am aware of. However, any chance of driving? I don't know why but I love road trips.

Re: Southwest Airlines

I fly SW all the time, they are great. The one catch is that they don't assign seats, you pick your own when you get on the plane. If you get there late, and the plane is full, you might get a bad seat. Other than JetBlue, they are my most preferred airline.

Re: Southwest Airlines

The secret to getting a decent seat is to print out your boarding pass ahead of time. This still doesn't give you an assigned seat, but it gets you into the first group to board. Chances are you'll get the seats you want then.

You can do this any time after midnight the day of your flight.

Re: Southwest Airlines

Never had an issue with them. Our biggest beef is the seat assignments or lack there of. With three small kids it makes it easier to get on first, but if you are late, or do not stick together when you get on the plane you will be separated. It is a lot like riding the bus, first come first serve.

Also, it always seems like it takes longer to load the plane because the first few people on board will want to sit in the front and they always have bags they need to cram in the over head compartment.

If you are flying out of Louisville it is a really nice airport. We have flew out of Dayton the last few trips. From my house it is much closer than Louisville and about 10 minutes further than CVG.

Re: Southwest Airlines

We are planning to fly out of Indianapolis. Home of the one and only aecox. LOL!!!

Thanks for the advice. I will print out our boarding pass on the morning we leave home, but won't be able to do that at Disney. If I'm not using the magical express program, can I still use the airline check-in provided at the hotel?

Re: Southwest Airlines

Another vote for Southwest. If you bring your confirmation number to the front desk, they will most often print out your boarding pass for you if you ask nicely and there is not a long line. I've done that on a couple of occassions.

the Magic Express hotel check-in is only for those flying the preferred carriers and booked into the program.

Re: Southwest Airlines

Jeff, what happened to the Rumpus Room plan? Glad you managed to get a trip in this year. If you have never flown out of Indy... get there early.

The Rumpus Room is finished!!!! Next I save for WDW. We have never flown out of Indy. Our flight is at 9:05am Cincy time. We plan to leave our house at 5:30am, which puts us at the airport at 7:30am. Is 1 1/2 hours enough?

Re: Southwest Airlines

Should be, you may want to check with aecox and ask her what time it is. They do not follow daylight saving time and I think they are the same as us until October.

Re: Southwest Airlines

With Southwest you can now check in online even if you don't have a printer to print the boarding pass. Once you get to the airport, go to a Southwest Kiosk and you can print the boarding pass and still get the coveted A group.

Actually, they do not spring forward. So they are now 1 hour behind us. Angie, am I right?

Yup, you are right.
One hour behind here in stagnant Indiana.

Re: Southwest Airlines

I have used southwest numerous times as they have the best flights at the best price for me, as well. I have never had any problems. We usually get to the airport about 2 hrs. before our flight and have never had a problem with sitting together.
