Yesterday CRT, today.....

I booked an IllumiNations Cruise this morning!! I was so excited I was shaking when the CM picked up. I totally forgot to do a practice call yesterday to see what numbers to hit once I got through so I really thought I was out of luck for today. I got lucky and got right through and booked one before they were all taken.

We have done this twice and it's so worth it to sit and relax before IllumiNations starts and not have to try to save a place, especially in July when it's hot and crowded. If you haven't done this it is worth taking a look at.

Now I have a new problem, I don't know where to eat before our cruise. I had planned to do H & V this night so now I am at square one. My DMIL is picky and doesn't ever like to try new foods. She gets chicken strips at most of the restaurants we go to at home and WDW isn't much different. Going to a nice place with great food isn't really a treat to her, she likes to keep it simple. We have to be at the Beach Club at 8:15 so we don't miss our boat.

We are already dropping a lot on the cruise so I would like to keep dinner reasonable this day. Places like Yacthsman Steakhouse/Flying Fish are out just for price. Cape May is out, my DMIL wouldn't like it, too many seafood smells (plus we are planning it for later in our trip when DMIL is gone).

Do we try to get in ESPN with no PS and hope we can get in and out in time?
Eat at Roaring Forks before we leave WL?
Hop over to the MK and go to the Plaza Restaurant with a PS for about 5pm then race to BC?
Eat at a counter service place in Epcot on our way through to Beach Club?
Do we plan on Beaches and Cream and hope the wait isn't too long?
Any ideas?

What's an overplanner to do when the plans go awry?

Re: Yesterday CRT, today.....

I think you might really get lucky at Spoodles! There are lovely pasta options, and chicken fingers as well! Plus, no seafood smells. The atmosphere is really pleasant. Afterward, you could grab some sweets next door to take on your cruise!
Good luck!

Re: Yesterday CRT, today.....

The Illuminations Cruise is one of my best memories from our last trip!!

For eating time, don't race anywhere!! Pick up food at the Beaches and Cream take-out window or the Spoodles take-out window; or try to get into ESPN. There's also always the Electric Umbrella, Cantina de San Angel, or Rose and Crown take-out.

Enjoy!!

Steph -
Congrats on getting the cruise agian. That is awesome! Is Beaches and Cream an option for your DMIL? The food there seems to be pretty simple.

From allearsnet:
Quote:

Pontoon Boats -- Another option for an IllumiNations cruise is a 24-foot pontoon boat, which seats 10 comfortably. The pontoon has a canopy, is roomier, and has some drink holders. When you rent either boat, it belongs to your party for the show; meaning the only people there will be the ones you've invited! The price for a pontoon IllumiNations Cruise starts at $140.84 + tax, for a maximum of 12 people. (Not covered under any of WDW package plans.) Cost includes a driver. Optional food and beverage items are available through Yacht Club Private Dining at 407-934-3160. You may not bring your own food or beverages on board.

RESERVATIONS for all cruises are made by calling 407-WDW-PLAY, between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m., 90 days in advance. You must provide a credit card to hold the reservation. You must cancel at least 24 hours in advance or your card will be charged.

NOTE: The cruise has gotten very popular, so be sure to call ahead for the reservation.

I loved the cruise sooo much!! It was still $120 when we did it, but it was worth it!!!! It is not easy to get, so, CONGRATS!!!!

Re: Yesterday CRT, today.....

Er, I feel a bit foolish asking this, but what does CRT stand for? The first thing I thought of was "Yesterday CRT, today LCD, tomorrow 3D VR!" (CRT = Cathode Ray Tube, LCD = Liquid Crystal Display, 3D VR = 3-D Virtual Reality...)

Hope that helps!

Re: Yesterday CRT, today.....

Oh, thank you. :D

Other abbreviations throw me sometimes because I'm often referred to as "CM" on various boards (for my screen name) and I live in the Washington DC area, so when I see references to "CM" my eyes dart to them, thinking someone's responding to me, and to DC, thinking someone's local.

Re: Yesterday CRT, today.....

I would add that -- given our experience arranging things for our own trip in a week and a half -- it might be wise to set up Priority Seating even this far in advance. Apparently the celebration is bringing amazingly high numbers of people to WDW.
