To day was the day that I would pay the balance on our MYW Package for the Poly in July. It was a lot easier said than done. To start, I was going to pay the balance with my Visa Debit card. In preparation, I called the bank and had my daily spending limit on the ard raised to accomodate this tranaction of almost $3500. With bank arrangements made, I called the Disney travel company to pay the balance at around 10AM. the CM first told me that the transaction did not go through due to a "communication error" so she tried the card again, to which it was declined. I immediately called the bank and they reported that the first transaction in fact did get authorized, while the second one was declined because it would have exceeded my daily limit on the card. So I call back Disney Travel to find that their system did not show that the balance was paid, but rather the transaction was declined. I was very nevous but the CM patched me through to Guest Relations. The CM there told me that they would have to contact their Accounting Dept. to dig into this further and would call me back as soon as they found something out. With nothing else to pursue with Disney at that time, I again called the bank to confirm that the transaction was authorized, where it definately was but they could not give me any confirmation numbers. I called Disney Travel again after an hour to try and get more information but they told me I might have to wait until the evening or the next day to have a CM call me back with any information. My DW was getting more and more upset by all of this as time went on.

My DW and I could not baby sit the phone so we went out to do some chores. I stopped back home around 2pm to find no calls from Disney. At around 4:30 I called back Disney Travel to get the CM who I first talked to in the morning. She could not offer me anymore information than had already been given, so we were still being charged for the trip with no record of Disney having received the authorization.

The evening went on until my DW finally called Disney Travel again to get a CM that was very helpful. He found out for us that the CM in Guest Relations (separate from Disney Travel) might have gone home for the day, but put on another CM. Finally, after 9 hours later, this CM, Joshua, was very eager to help us out. He arranged for a 3-way call between himself, me, and my bank. After explaining the story to the bank, we (Joshua an I), were put on hold while the bank person talked to her supervisor. When she did get back to us, she was going to cancel the transaction and credit my account back, to try the transaction again with Joshua on the phone. The transaction was declined again! The bank lady thought that my daily limit may have been exceeded so she raised my daily spending limit to $5000, well above the cost of the trip balance. Joshua tried again and the transaction was declined again?!?! We were put on hold again while the bank lady consulted her supervisor again. The problem was that by crediting me for the transaction in the morning, the system would take time in updating itself, but we could use my DW's card which has a different Visa number but linked to the account. This time it worked and we received the confirmation number!! The trip was now paid in full after being in limbo for over 9 hours and being on the phone for about an hour at the end.

I don't know if I can post this ordeal as a lesson learned to anyone since I don't really know what had happened in the first place. In addition to myself, my DW ended the last call by thanking Joshua for all of his help in resolving this snafu. He was also nice enough to get us free Autographed Character Pictures when we check in, and left us his number in Guest Relations.

We are so relieved to have this problem solved, now we really need a vacation even more!

Wow, that would make me nervous too! That is a lot of money to be out there in the twilight zone somewhere. I'm glad to hear it all worked out though. The Poly looks like a beautiful resort and July will be here before you know it!

This is why I get so nervous with big trips. There are so many potential issues and problems that could happen along the way!! I'm so glad you got this solved. Here's hoping that this is the last unfortunate issue you'll have to encounter with this trip and the rest will be picture-perfect!

WOW Big Time Stress. Im glad that it worked out for you. I have had this happen to me when we went to buy a computer. I dont understand this "limit" with a debit card. I mean not for nothing but what ever amount is in your account is your money to use. So if you only have lets say 100 dollars then thats all you can us e but if you have 5,000 then you should be able to use 5,000.
Someone told me that Bank Of America doesnt have a limit amount on their debit cards...


Any like someone else said I would keep checking your account to make sure that they dont wind up charging you twice and then your accounts over-drawn.

I am so glad you got that worked out. Joshua sounds like a great CM, you were lucky you got him by chance. I hate it when things like that are messed up and out of my control.

How aggrevating. I am so sorry you had to go through all that. Bright side of this: your trip is paid in full. It sounds like the computers that run our world were running a little off today. There is no lesson to learn. You are right ....just a bad incident for no good reason at all. Again, I am sorry for your stressful day...wow! You and your DW must have had it by the 9th hour. Congrats on your paid in full trip. You two definately deserve it after today's events.

Actually, this all happened with us using our Bank of America cards.

Thanks for all of the positive responses everyone. My DW has done a "Tigger bounce" back from yesterday's ordeal. I thought that by using the Visa/Debit card, I would be able to get instant feedback from Disney that we are paid in full. I didn't like the idea of sending payment through the mail and waiting a while to see if it was received. I guess there are trade-offs for both.
