Re: What brings you back?

It's like leaving the real world and going into a fantasy land. That's why I really like to stay onsite, because you never have to leave at night. You can fly through space, become a pirate, explore dinosaurland, visit different parts of the world...whatever. It's like Walt (and everyone else who had a part in it) took our dreams and made them real. Your biggest worries are what to ride next and where to eat. Most people there are happy too. I also feel so safe there. In a world of wars, crime, work, and everything else, it is great to go to a place where you are kind of taken away...like a dream. I get a peacefull, happy feeling just thinking about being there.

Re: What brings you back?

It is hard to say what draws us back. After the first trip back in 91, we thought it would be a long time before we went back. It was only 2 years later that we went again and bought into DVC. Since then, if we go more than 12 months, we wind up going a couple of times at least in the next year.
As my DD's were growing up, I was always pointing out to them little details in the world around them. We took time to look at the colors in the sky, to pile leaves up in the fall and then roll in them.....so many sensory experiences. All this I did to make wonderful memories and to help stimulate their creativity and appreciation of life. Disney has all these things rolled up into one of the best experiences you could want. My family has never been into the characters so I don't think that is the draw. I think instead, it is the attention to detail that makes it all so real and sucks you into the very fantasy of it all.
I am never ready to leave and always ready to go back....even as I unpack. It is complete immersion into a world unlike anything we can have anywhere else and it is drawing me back even at this very moment.

Re: What brings you back?

All this and there are people out there that just can't grasp it or understand it. I'm not one to criticize others for there choice of National Parks or Antique trips but I take junk about my love for anythign Disney.

People don't understand the reason to stay on-site.

People can't grasp the restaurants or any of it at all really. It's not an amusement park it's . . . . The happiest place on Earth.

I have wonderful memories of that once a year family trip as a child (and we were only 15 minutes away!), my "teenager" trips when we were so cool and danced at Videopolis, my Grad night trip where I first discovered that I really got along with someone who is now one of my absolute best friends (and we saw the guy who looked EXACTLY LIKE Billy Idol!!! ).

I think of my dad saying, "Okay, this time we're not going to rush through the park. I want to saunter down Main Street holding hands with your mother." I think of my first time on Space Mountain with my oldest friend, and my first time on the teacups with her and of how her one-of-a-kind (and now passed away) father spun our 9 year old selves faster than we thought it was ever possible to go.

I think of the time I stood with other good friends on the balcony off the gallery, surveying the land and dreaming our dreams. I think of the pack of drama camp kids we brought there every year, how we always had to go on Pirates first , and how we'd hand out lyric sheets to all the kids so they could sing the Pirates song while we stood in line.

I think of my husband trying to find the words to ask me to marry him while we had a spaghetti dinner on Main Street. (Closed now. Ah, well.). I think of standing in line for Roger Rabbit later that night, so tired, barely able to stand after a really long day, and just thinking, "I'm going to marry him."

Disneyland has my best memories. How could I not be happy there? How could I not go back?
Wow, reading this post almost made me cry (granted, I'm a little sleep deprived this weekend). All of these things are what makes us come back too. Different memories, but all similar and wonderful. I didn't get engaged in WDW, but we did honeymoon there. Lots and lots of reasons to keep coming back.

Re: What brings you back?

wow you all have said it so well! I keep going back to Disney because I love getting lost in it... staying onsite and being surrounded by Disney 24/7. I forget a world even exists outside of it. It's so much fun to just be crazy and play around. I've noticed that I don't look as happy in any picture as I do in the ones taken at Disney. I go for the magic... and also for a big smooch on the cheek from Mickey. :)

Where else can a grown woman wear a Goofy hat and still manage not to look like a dork?

Where else can you go that you don't care if you do look like a dork? I'm with you Dana, I love feeling like I'm a kid again! I smile more when I'm in WDW than I do at any other time.

Kindred spirits..lol I have the goofy hat, the pooh, AK safari hat, sorcer mickey and of course the cutomary minnie ears. I always get a wacky hat each trip. My DD wears one right along side of me. Where else can preteen girl act like a child without worry? lolol I love being able to get giddy like her and excited when I see my favorite characters. Special moment last trip was when my DD insisted that we get in the front row at muppets 3d so I could be close to Sweetums my favorite muppet..

Re: What brings you back?

I think what I like best is watching my girls experience the rides and attractions. Since they are pretty far apart in age (6,10,15) They like different things best. And as they grow they are interested and excited by different attractions. I like that WDW is always adding things so there is always something to look forward to. It has somethng for everyone and is truly a magical place.

Re: What brings you back?

It's so relaxing, enjoyable for me to see my wife and kids, friends having the time of their lives and I truly do not think about the rat-race back home. I enjoy seeing strangers enjoying themselves with their families...everyones happy!

My favorite park is Epcot...the food, cultures, the music, rides and illumminations.
