How much should we tip housekeeping?

Ok. The time is drawing near and my mind is realing with all kinds of thoughts..like...

How much do you tip housekeeping on a daily basis? I heard if you tip them on a daily basis you get those really cool towel animal things...

Any suggestions?

We tip $2 a day - I don't know if that's good or not, but we clean up the room before we leave anyways (just a habit - I make the kids make their beds - mean mommy)

We did get animal things in January, but didn't in July. We came back one day in January and all the toys were having a parade! :D

The "mousekeepers" are great, and certainly treat you well. I don't know if the tipping had anything to do with it, but we gave $5/day. They did so many cute little things, it was a smal price to pay. They left notes, rearranged stuffed animals, folded towels into animal shapes, and just did an overall fantastic job.:D :)

I found it!

These are adorable to use for tips: Mousekeeping envelopes

One time we put the money right on the TV (without a note) and they didn't take it. Finally figured out we had to TELL them to take it. :D

On the WDWIG.com, I think I read you tip $1. per person per day.

Hope this helps.

Thats a great idea!! After watching Samantha Brown's episode on the Grand floridian on her show "great hotels", Ive always wanted the "mouse"keeping to do that for me! It never popped in my head that maybe if I leaved a tip......lol. When I stayed at the contemporary, they never did anything to the towels but they did leave nice notes saying "have a great day at the parks" or "Happy holidays". One time at the All Stars they arranged all the porcelian characters i got agianst the window in cool displays. Now I know what to do next time! Thanks!
Joe:)

I'm so embarassed!:o

I have never left a tip for a housekeeper, ever. (and this, coming from a person who spent 5 years as a waitress!!!) No wonder I have never received a Mickey wake-up call or special towel creatures in my room.

Shame on me!!! :madmad

Tipping housekeeping

We went this past June, and stayed in the Contemporary!
I left $2.00 a day. Housekeeping would leave me the cutest
shapes with there towels!
I never asked them for anything extra. But felt every little bit helps!

. trishb,
Don't feel so bad. I think part of the reason I left $5/night was because, in all the vacations I've taken in my life, I'd never thought of it, either, until I saw the subject mentioned on DC. Making up for lost time? Who knows. A little philosophy for you(sorry, I majored in it in college): You can't change the past, but you can use it to help mold the future.:D :)

HOUSEKEEPING at Disney is not a tipping service, meaning they do not get a tipping job wage. Valets, Wait Staff, Bell Hops, and other services as these are however. Disney gives you a brief guideline on this upon check-in. I have talked to people who work at Disney in these positions as well and although I'm sure Housekeeping appreciates it, they do get paid a standard pay rate and it is not necessary. This is not true at many hotels, but it is at Disney. I'm sure Mickey can verify this for you and make you feel better about not having done so in the past. Again I have talked to people in those positions, they even gave me the current rates on bags, I believe it was $2.31 per bag, but $2 is very acceptable. If everyone wants more info, I can get the official input and post it here.:D But do not feel bad if you have never or do not intend to tip the Housekeeping service.

These folks might make a "non-tipping" wage but they still probably make peanuts!! I always tip the hotel staff, including housekeeping. I feel if I can afford to stay in a nice hotel, go to expensive theme parks, and eat good meals, I can certainly tip the hard working people who make my vacation a pleasant one. We left $30 for housekeeping after 6 people spent 6 nights in a 2 bed-room villa with 2 bathrooms and a kitchen that was spotless everyday!!! Cheers to all of the hard working people behind the scenes!!!

Well, don't misunderstand, I'm not saying don't do it.:)

I'm just saying you can rest easy if you haven't or can't afford it.:p
