Power rangers not allowed in foreign countries

I was just browsing my email offer from disneydirect.com for halloween costumes and came across something weird:

First of all, I was not aware that Disney had any affiliation with power rangers, but it doesn't surpise me. But the odd thing was, they are selling power ranger costumes with a disclosure stating:

"** Please Note: Power Rangers items not available for sale or shipment in Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, The Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, European, African (except South Africa) and Middle Eastern Countries."

Anyone know why these costumes are restricted in these areas?

Re: Power rangers not allowed in foreign countries

They bought the power rangers awhile ago. I have no idea why they are restricted in those areas though.

Maybe they only bought limited rights? North & South America, & a few others?

Re: Power rangers not allowed in foreign countries

Wasn't Power Rangers originally made somewhere in Asia? Asia may hold the original copyright, making the US/Disney version outlawed. Maybe?

I agree, it must be a licensing agreement.

Re: Power rangers not allowed in foreign countries

I, too was surprised that the Power Rangers were even still popular, but kids love them, and they are (I believe) shown on ABC - which is Disney owned.

In case you didn't know - they also are now making appearances at Disney MGM Studios! My niece, who is a big fan of theirs, was thrilled to find all four ranges cavorting around the streets over by the new LIGHTS MOTOR ACTION attraction. (I've attached a pic of her with the Pink Ranger).

It's great that so many things that kids like (that aren't necessarily associated with Disney) can all be found in one place. My neice also happens to be a big fan of Star Wars, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, Indiana Jones, JoJo and Goliath, Monster's Inc, and Wizard of Oz -- so imagine the looks on her face when saw all of these things at one shot at MGM Studios!!

Re: Power rangers not allowed in foreign countries

This is a little off topic...but are they just the "Power Rangers" again? There have been so many "Power Rangers in Space", "Power Rangers Ninja", Dino Power Rangers or whatever....I lost track!!

I used to watch the ORIGINAL Power Rangers when I was little! I had no idea they were still around, or that they were still so popular!

Re: Power rangers not allowed in foreign countries

There are several different types of Power Rangers. I think the current Rangers are Space Patrol Delta or SPD.

I have a 7 year old boy--I have to try to keep up. It's not easy!

*feels like a geek for knowing this... *

They are back to the standard Rangers, only in the future. So you have lots more sci-fi elements and space themes because it is the future. In other words, this is the next set of kids to be Power Rangers, and since it is in the future, things on earth have changed some. More like a Star trek future, aliens in the culture is part of day to day life.

I, too, am surprised they never technically died off and have now infiltrated my son's life. Luckily he wanted to be an Incredible for Halloween more than a Power Ranger, but it was a close call.

There has been much talk about a Power Rangers show coming to disney Studios.

Also, on the overseas deal, it's a copyright issue from when Disney obtained rights to the franchise. I feel Disney wanted a quick fix for an Action Series, and for whatever reason, they went Power Rangers. They do seem popular, so I guess it was a smart move.

It's just crazy to me that they're still around and have been reincarnated so many times...they won't go away!

When the original Power Rangers first came out, I was in gymnastics, wore pink all the time, and my name was Kimberly. (And yes, this was a complete coincidence!) I came to school one day and a 4-year-old kid asked me for my autograph!

Re: Power rangers not allowed in foreign countries

My DS was thrilled to meet the rangers this summer. It took us 3 times to meet all five of them but we finally got pictures and autographs with each of them. Get to the area a little early and ask a CM where each Ranger will be and line up before they come out. If you do that you can get 2-3 Rangers done in one outing. They didn't stay out long when we were there, maybe 10-12 minutes each time.

Good for you!! I have never actually watched a full show but I catch it as I pass through the living room or hear bits of it if he in in the computer room watching TV. I think the Power Rangers are as big now as they were years ago, who knew.

We got lucky - or maybe the weather was better? We saw all 4 rangers (there ARE 4, right? ) We got her to take pix with all four of them - they wer hanging about the streets of NY area while a band played rock music. They were out there for about a 1/2 hour-- had a Rangermobile with them.
BTW, she's also 7 - so she's the ripe age for them.

Re: Power rangers not allowed in foreign countries

You did get lucky, we really had to work to meet all of them but it was worth it. When we were there we met 5 Rangers but that may vary. It was pretty busy the day we were there and we waited until the middle of the afternoon to head back to meet them. I bet if we had tried in the morning the crowds would have been better. My DS is also 7--the perfect Ranger age.
