Countdown Traditions

Besides the thrill of posting your "Countdown" here, what do you do to celebrate the days ticking away? We have a weekly Disney movie night and I fill a jar with the appropriate number of candies, decorate the jar with Disney stickers, etc., and we all eat one a day. What are your rituals?

Re: Countdown Traditions

The candy jar is a very cute ritual. Since I rarely have a countdown, and seem to go when I get the chance, our only ritual seems to be the big excitement the night before...and, of course, trying to NOT tell the kids - so they'll be SUPER surprised in the morning.

They usually figure it out, though.

Re: Countdown Traditions

We also had a weekly Disney movie ritual when we went this past April. I needed to catch up on my Disney movies! Plus I bought Mickey Mouse bags and filled them with Disney related activities to do while we were traveling. I put a new item in each night when we were down to like a 5 or 6 days. My 2 DS got to watch the bags get full, but they couldn't see the contents until we were on the road!

Re: Countdown Traditions

My DD and I do the standard countdown chain to count our days till our trip. Sometimes we do movie night, but it's been awhile since we have done that...not sure why actually.

Re: Countdown Traditions

We, like Dana, make a countdown chain. The kids decorate the strips of paper and then we put it together. It's usually a rainy day activity and they have a great time making it, they get very creative.

Re: Countdown Traditions

My dad and I have a tradition that starts about 2 weeks before our trip...at the end of every long work day we say "Are we there yet?". It doesn't end until we get to the hotel at WDW!

Re: Countdown Traditions

I make a countdown to Disney calendar starting with 30 and each day rip off a number to see the smaller number below. I have always done this with the kids and then we do a little dance and sing "We're going to Disney. We're going to Disney. In __ days." Corny I know but we love it. I can't do it this trip since it is a big surprise for our kids, but I think I might do it by myslef just to eep up tradition and because I can hardly contain my excitement.

I have the same situation and it's nearly killing me. This is the first trip with no countdown. DD got so upset today because I was playing Disney music, she asked me to stop because it was making her sad and she wants to go back so badly. It was so tough not telling her!!

Re: Countdown Traditions

We don't really have a tradition. I like to read reviews and make lists of things we want to do on the current trip. But it seems the lists keep changing every day.

Re: Countdown Traditions

No countdown traditions here except the daily, "How many days???" questions. Now I'm inspired, though, and might have to think up something fun...!
