I just wanted to share this experience to see what everyone here thought.
OK, when we were leaving Disney on the Magical Express the bus driver introduced himself (he was probably is his early 30's) and started telling about himself. There were probably about 6 families on the bus, many young children, and several young tween children, then us.

He said something along the lines of..
"If you went to AK on your trip this time you may have come across my father, he's been a bus driver for WDW for five years and now does an AK route."

ok, whatever...

THEN, he goes, I will tell you that I decided to move here and work for Disney because several months ago my fiance died and I promised her I would do anything to make our son happy so I figured what would make a child happier than living in Disney World. So I got my CDL (or something) and moved here"

Instantly you heard several moms say 'uhhh, ok, geeez" and even one guy behind me said "what the heck, spare us the details?" Everyone seemed pretty annoyed that he chose to tell this story to a bus full of children, teens and adults who are leaving their WDW vacation.
-I know it didn't make my PDD any better!

That's pretty strange. Not all the DME drivers actually work for Disney, many are Mears drivers driving the ME buses.

I will follow this up by saying in the que for Splash Mountain a CM literally yelled at my father-in-law because he accidentally gave the wrong number in our party and it "messed up his boat count." My FIL felt so bad, but heck it was just an accident.

Whoops!! Sheesh!!


Oh oh oh, and on the Peter Pan ride RIGHT BEFORE you get on the sailing ship a CM literally kept sticking is arm out right in front of people to stop them from moving. Being the people watcher that I am I watched the repition of this many parts during the que and there were ALOT of "WTF?" faces on the guests when they got up there & it happened to them.
What happened to "please wait here" or something along those lines?


Hmm, who knows maybe it was the heat?

Hey DisTeach, I noticed that some were Mears drivers too but he was wearing the full Magical Express outfit and it did sound like he was a CM. Who knows

Then that is even stranger. I don't understand people giving out such personal information to strangers. I wouldn't have said anything (big chicken here) but I hope someone did.

Since I lost my daughter, I can understand this poor man. Sometimes you just hurt so bad you can't stand it when you are grieving. You find yourself sharing your story when you know you shouldn't...you just need to talk about it. I know that sounds awful but the pain is there and you just want to share with others about your loved one. I agree it probably made people uncomfortable and he should have kept it in, but I do understand.

Leslie, you are probably right. He is hurting and at that moment he had to tell someone. I don't know that pain and I hope I never do so it's something I don't understand. Thanks for the insight.

My first reaction was - poor man. Thank you Leslie for your post. We should all try to be a little more compassionate. People grieve in all sorts of ways. Maybe it comforted him to talk about it. Perhaps a little uncomfortable, but not offensive. As for the children - I'm sure they didn't even notice and if they did, their parents should explain to them that sometimes sad things happen to people and we should try and be kind and understanding.

Yeah, me and my husband really didn't mind. I had jsut lost my grandmother to cancer les than a year agoa nd she was my true mom. One of the reasons disney is so important to me is b/c all of the trips we had in the motorhome in Fort Wilderness. Those were our best times together and now when I go to WDW and she isn't with me, it breaks my heart.

I would have NEVER said anything about this cast member to a manager or anything.

Probably the MOST DISTURBING part of the whole situation was I heard a man's voice in the back of the bus say "I guess that means you want a good tip" I tried to ignore that part but I think my husband was ready to get up and knock that guy out.

Anyway, just thought it was a strange situation.

Ditto....my husband often tells me that I share more about MJ and myself than I should. I try not to, but for me it comes from being trapped with few real life friends so when I do get to talk to others things come spilling out that I don't inted....

Jeez get over it! The poor guy just wanted to talk for crying out loud. Its not like he was using foul language or making obscene comments. Did you try to change the subject??? How about a polite "Oh, thats nice" Did it cost you extra $$$ to listen to his comments? BIG DEAL find something important to get twisted up about.

Also remember that WDW probably attracts a lot of employees who go there to find jobs where they can be around people -- sometimes, they feel like being chatty (however inappropriate) is friendliness. I think he was probably just a friendly and lonely guy. Hope he kept his eyes on the road, though!

Perhaps the driver could reflect his story enroute to Disney. It would be more postitve?

But I could see it not helping the PDD leaving the park.

I loved to share my personal stories when I interacted with my guests, it made me connect to them and thats what he was doing.
We all work at wdw for different reasons and we all like to share.
He had a loss and now is helping his son grow up in such a magical place.
Thats what I plan on doing, going back to wdw and letting him grow up there.
So he shared a little about himself, is that so wrong?? Maybe if we all knew a little about each other we wouldn't be so rude on the streets and see each other as a friend as opposed to just another face in the crowd.

Oh if you want to see inappropriate cm's, become one.
Since you are a CM you don't deserve as much magic as a regular guest.
Since you get a discount here and there, you're too much of a hassle.
I hate that the most, the guest in front will get a smile, while I get a odd look and a why are you here, don't you get tired of working?
Like the staff at ASmu, they got down right rude with me, looking at my Cast ID like it was a forgery and even asking me what is this. Management did not even try to correct this and even said, well you're getting a discounted room rate......
We all have our stories though dont we?
