We had our Disney Planning Party!!

Last night, we had our Disney Planning Party for all 17 of us going in May. It was so much fun!

My sister took all of her kids "disney" toys and stuffed animals and placed them all around the house. The "center piece" on the table, was disney action figures (buzz, woody, etc) and our Mickey Mouse ears from previous trips. She made Mickey Mouse cookies and I brought a cake that had mickey and minnie on top that said "we're going to Disney World!" My sister also bought all the kids a T-Shirt at the Disney Store for the party and for the first day in the park. All the girls have purple Belle shirts and the boys have the goofy shirts that say "being goofy!". I made up packets for all 5 families that had loads of info I typed and printed off the internet. I think the people who hadn't been in years or who have never been were just amazed how much planning needed to be done!

We all sat around until midnight and still didn't get every thing accomplished! Oh well, maybe we'll have to do it again!

What a great time we had, just wanted to share it with you.....

By the way.....what do you think the odds are of me booking a table at CRT for 17 people? I think I'm probaby pushing it, don't you???;)

That is way cool.

CRT with 17?

There has to be a special number for that phone call. Maybe you should write a letter.

Good luck.

That sounds like so much fun! We usually have a friend going when we go (we go at really popular times)--what a great idea--a planning party. . . . .

thinking up ideas already. . . :)

It was fun! Unfortunatley we didn't get all of our meals planned out, so we'll have to try again. There is a lot of talking between 10 adults around a table, so we didn't get everything done.

At least I finished my itinerary, just have a 3 more meals to finalize.

1) Waiting to hear back from Disney, to see the best way to get reservations for 17 at CRT. (wish us luck!)

2) My brother in law choose The Coral Reef for his 35th birthday dinner and I pulled the menu up and it didn't look like something we'd be interested in eating. The atmosphere looks great, but the food looks, well, how shall I say this, a little on the weird side. We are used to good ol country food, southern cooking, and Tex-Mex, blackend pirana is way to out there for me!!! I suggested Fultons crab house to him, but does anyone else out there have any others.....?

3) Trying to decide if we should skip Chef Mickeys for Whispering Canyon......I think the kids would like Chef Mickeys better??? Maybe I should flip a coin!

If yall are staying at the wilderness lodge, couldn't you do both chef mickeys and perhaps whispering canyon for breakfast?

Well, yes, I would suggest avoiding Coral Reef. If you are looking for seafood, Flying Fish cannot be beat. If you are looking for something more meat and potatos, Le Cellier in Canada is a wonderful steakhouse. Fulton's is great as well, though it is quite expensive. It costs us about $75 per person during our last trip.

Chef Mickey's is a much more standard character meal. Buffet food, characters walking around. Whispering Canyon is kind of like eating with one big family. Lots of singing, jokes and participating. I would guess that kids under 5 will love Chef Mickey's, while kids older than 5 will like Whispering Canyon more.

Thanks Mickey and teresa!

I guess we will do both, Chef Mickeys and Whispering Canyon. When we go our kids will be 3 and 7, so we'll all be happy!

I'm still interested if anyone else has some other suggestions for Seafood. After my last post, I read about Cape May. Sounds good! Is this a character meal??

If you are looking for good, plain seafood Fulton's is a terrific place to eat. DH and I love it! But, it is really pricey. For seafod that is simple and casual, I recommend Captain Jack's at Downtown Disney.
I have never been to the Cape May Cafe for dinner, only for breakfast. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed, with a beach theme. This particular restaurant will have not problem accomodating your party of 17.

Cape May Cafe has a character breakfast, but lunch and dinner are a seafood buffet, no characters. Cape May isn't my favorite place, but it is ok. Then again, I am pretty adventurous in where I eat. I usually try to shy away from buffets, unless it is for a character breakfast.

Fulton's and Flying Fish are by far the best seafood restaurants, though both are kind of expensive, but no more so than Coral Reef. They are both wonderful restaurants, though Flying Fish is kind of small if you are trying to get your whole group in. I think the restaurant only seats about 50, so you would have good portion of it. Fulton's is quite large, since it occupies the entire paddle wheel ship in Downtown Disney. They also have private rooms large enough for 17. Either one of these has great food, and you won't be disappointed.

Well, I'll throw a bone to the Cape May Cafe... If you like buffets and if you don't have a good source of seafood in Austin, I'd recommend Cape May.

My daughter and I really enjoyed the steamers (mussels and clams), and I thought several other items were really great (desserts, chili, and clam chowder). My wife doesn't really go for shellfish, but she raved about the pot roast.

Fulton's is on my list for the future...

Another option... many of the restaurants serve Salmon (especially Artist Point - yum!).

Don't forget to check out the reviews on reviewcentral!

Sounds Like alot of fun!!!! That a really good idea if you are going to disney with friends or another family. I went to chef mickeys this past feb. and I loved it...and im 15! lol. It was for breakfast and the buffet was great! Everyone in our party (7 of us) approved of the food. You'll have alot of fun! How many days are you going to be at disney?
