I have a question to all. What happens if Delta does and files for Chapter 11?? Do they cancel flights from less used airports?? We have 4 rt tickets on Delta Oct 22, returning Oct 30th. Are stuck???

Re: What if...

My understanding is Chapter 11 simply protects a company from creditors while they restructure. So it may not effect flights short term. Of course, an airline can cancel smaller routes at any time, even without bankruptcy looming.

Do you go through a travel agency? If so, I'd call your agent. Or PM our host, Mickey, and perhaps he can give you some advice.

Or just call Delta and ask them directly. But it may be a case where no one knows what they are going to do just yet.

Re: What if...

There are a number of airlines that have declared bankruptcy over the years that are still in business. Of the ones that haven't, most of the flights/routes that might have been affected were immediately picked up by other airlines.

Since it's next month, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Re: What if...

I think United is in Chapter 11 right now, and this is their third time around. I am sure there are several others that are as well. You have to watch out for chapter 7, that would mean they would stop flying, but I doubt that will happen anytime soon.

Re: What if...

Mickey is correct, as always, United is in Chapter 11 and they are still flying. Delta is not looking at filing Chapter 7 from what I have been told. We are still hoping that they don't file Chapter 11, but I can't see how at this point they wont at least file Chapter 11.

With your trip 1 month away, you should be fine.

Re: What if...

Delta isn't going anywhere anytime soon. MOST of the airlines are still in trouble after 9/11 and MOST weren't in that good of shape before then. Most of the airlines that file for reorganization use it to get out of long term leases on planes that they are loosing money on. It's highly unlikely that Delta would file for liquidation and quit flying. They also own two profitable (by airline standards) regional airlines - Atlantic Southeast (ASA) and Comair, which if the main line pulls out of your airport it is generally because they can't fill the planes enough and that's where the regionals with the small jets shine.

Just keep an eye on the schedules. If they change or cancel your flight, they are responsible.

They keep flying, but there may be some changes in the schedules, so call ahead to check!

Re: What if...

Heard on the radio today that Delta should do something in the next week to 10 days. The Delta spokesman sadi that everyone holding tickets would not be affected.

Re: What if...

I heard someone say i should convert my E tickets to paper ASAP, just in case my flight is canceled. This way I have better proof that I had tickets. Any ideas??? Thanks

Re: What if...

Phew, glad to hear that it probably won't affect flights if they file Chapter 11. With my trip 2 weeks away, I would have cried if my flight got cancelled!

Re: What if...

I really hope that this does not change my flights . I have just finally (I think) got everything fixed . Delta just started offering direct flights from here and I got one, and we leave in four weeks.
