Disney Films and Spectatorship
hi, i am a media studies student doing research into disney films and spectatorship. what i am most interested in is why teenage girls like Disney films when they are so stereotypical of females, particularly the older films (e.g. snow white). I, myself like watching some Disney films, but i am interested in why other girls do. If anyone has any opinions or comments into this please reply. Thankyou. :)

Welcome to DC Arriella.
I have a 17 year old daughter who loves all the Disney movies. She says they make her feel happy! I know there's all sorts of peer pressure they have to deal with as well as grade pressure, kids using bad language & acting inappropriately, etc. They give her hope that the world can be a nice place & one she'll enjoy. Her favorite character is Belle because she looked beyond the surface & saw the Beast for who he was inside.:angel :angel :angel

Great subject and question! Welcome!
I have never really been a fan of the Disney heroines of old. I love the new releases with strong leading ladies: Ariel, Belle, Mulan and Jasmine. Not only are these ladies beautiful, but smart and know what they want. I think they are great examples for our children and teenagers! :)
