Goodings delivered!

For those who might be interested in grocery delivery, I will give you an update on my experience with Goodings.
I faxed my order to them on Friday Nov 29 and asked for delivery to BCV on Sunday Dec 1 between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM.(Actually they had to deliver to the front desk at the Beach Club since there is no front desk in the Villas.) We had arrived at about 10:30 in the morning and knew that our rooms may not have been ready until 4:00. We found one room available at 3:00, so we checked in and organized things. At 3:30 we received a call from the front desk saying that we had a delivery of groceries that we could pick up when it was convenient. We had to go ourselves to verify the order. The only inconvenient part was that our room at BCV was quite a distance from the front desk and we had 6 bags of groceries. 2 cm's saw our problem and volunteered to help us carry the bags to our room and refused to even take a tip. Disney Service!
Of all the things we ordered, only 1 item was not available. (Tropicana low acid orange juice, which is often hard to find in my local supermarket) We did get fresh fruit which was fine; grapes and bananas. I expected soda to be in 12 oz cans but it came in 20 oz bottles. No big deal, but it was much more than we could use.
Overall I was very pleased with the service. You get a much better selection and pay a little less than in the on-site stores. You can do better on prices if you stop at some of the other area supermarkets but if you don't have that option or just don' feel like taking the time, it is well worth the additional expense.
My suggestion if you do use the service is to be very specific about the items you order, right down to the brands and sizes. If you have some flexibility on certain items, you can allow them to substitute.
If anyone has questions that I didn't cover, I'll do my best to answer them.

Wow, this is really great to know. This will be a great service especially for those who are without a vehicle while at WDW. Thanks for posting!

Remember, too, that if you use a towncar service from the airport they will stop at a grocery store on the way to the hotel if you let them know ahead of time. That's my choice!

Did you use the on-line selection, or did you specify everything that you wanted on your original fax?

Thanks for posting, by the way! Can't wait to hear about your trip!

Goodings delivered!

Trish,

I ended up just making a very specific list and faxing it to them.
When I went through the online list, I knew that most of the items that we wanted were not on the list but was assured that Goodings did stock just about as much as any supermarket.
I was going to e-mail from the site but they don't give you very much room for a list and I had some trouble trying to e-mail them from my computer. The fax seemed just as easy and they do prefer having the list in writing as opposed to doing it over the phone.
I apologize for being a little slow posting on the trip but I am still catching up at both jobs. Should be able to get to it real soon. It was one of the best ever but, as always, much to short!

Goodings delivered!

I'm definately suffering Post-Disney Depression, but because I am going to Vero Beach in Feb and my daughter sent me the Imagineering book, I'm able to cope better than expected.

Hey! One more question for you, Graybill. Did you fax the order to Goodings first, and then they called you to clarify the order and take payment?
I believe that this is what I am going to do for my trip. I think that I am also going to purchase a styrofoam cooler instead of renting a fridge for a week.
Any comments are welcome!

Goodings delivered!

Trish,

I faxed my order to Goodings on Friday evening and then called them on Saturday to go over the order and arrange payment.
I was cutting it kind of close since our flight was at 7:00 AM on Sunday morning and I was afraid they might not get back to me quickly enough. ( I'm great for doing things at the last minute.)

We stayed in a 1 bedroom villa, so we had a full size refrigerator. We had a lot of bulky things such as gallon bottles of water, half gallon cartons of OJ and milk, sodas and beer, so it was good that we had the refrigerator. I'm sure you can get by with a cooler since you only really need to keep the perishables cool all the time. I think that there should be ice machines close by your room.
