How many trips have you planned for friends?

Just wondering how bad our Disneyosis is? We seem to be helping friends all the time...actually, folks we barely know come up to us and ask us for advice about their trips to WDW.

Do other DC'ers find themselves doing this too? Travel agents don't really know WDW as well as the folks out here, and it seems that people are too busy to read all the books and learn all the ins/outs of WDW.

Just wondering....

I do it all the time, lol! In fact, if I hear someone say the words "WDW" my ears perk up! My dh has had clients call me, out of the blue, asking for advice. And I love to give it (but I'm always worried that I sound too bossy or pushy, so I try not to give advice unless I'm asked). The people that really bug me are the ones that refuse to take any advice, don't prepare at all for WDW and then come home and tell everyone what a horrible place it is and what a lousy time they had. If only they'd listened to me....

Re: How many trips have you planned for friends?

Great question. Funny, this happens to me a lot. The other day, I got a call at work from someone in another department who I don't even know, that asked for some tips and advice about his upcoming trip to WDW. I don't know how he even knows about me, but I guess word travels throughout the building.

I get calls from family and friends all the time asking me advice on Disney and New York City, my only two areas of expertise.

But the great thing is, no matter how much you know, you always come across people, on these boards and elsewhere, who know so much more. It only enhances the experience to know that you can really learn new things all the time.

Re: How many trips have you planned for friends?

I would say that I give out true planning advice 2-4 times a year over the last 5 years. My one friend credits my wife and I with 'saving' their vacation (and some money) due to their cluelessness, so they have referred several of THEIR friends to me. In fact, they went on their trip a few years ago and it was supposed to be a once in a lifetime trip. Ha! They're going back again this year.

I never go on a trip without doing a ton of research; it amazes me how many people do.

Re: How many trips have you planned for friends?

I often find myself jumping when I hear someone talking about going to WDW. I also love to give little tid bits of info to anyone who will listen. I have had a few call me to say "What do you think about ..." I try to contain myself, sometimes I can't do it and I just go on and on.

For friends....at least 3.
Since I moved to Orlando and work in guest services, I am always helping people with their vacation plans now.

Re: How many trips have you planned for friends?

We have "helped" our friends who are meeting us on our christmas trip.

We meet people all the time who have been before that we have help in small ways. Mostly about dining - thinking that they will be able to go to CRT for breakfast just by turning up

Its surprising how many people we meet who have been to WDW several times before and still didn't know that you could make reservations from the UK before they go.

Nearly all the travel agents over here don't know about the 180 day rule either!

Re: How many trips have you planned for friends?

I am constantly helping people plan their trips! My SIL and her family are complete WDW freaks and used to go all the time when she was young. Well this past January her parents took her entire family and her sister's entire family to WDW for the first time in about 10 years. Anyway, I was living throught their trip (oh no, not me....) and I had stated how Dumbo was going to be closed during their trip (for rehab) and a couple other tips I knew about. They totally blew me off and acted like I had no idea what I was talking about and went about their business. So they come home and of course Dumbo was closed and I was right about a few other things. When the started talking about the rest of thier trip I asked about specific things that only Disney Crazies would know about. Don't ya know a couple months later her parents were planning a trip and were calling me to find out stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: How many trips have you planned for friends?

I have done at least 10 planned trips and have a few more in the works. I get asked WDW questions alot from co-workers because they know we go alot and I have done planning for immediate family, in-laws, friends and neighbors. I should get my license but I do it for the love of all things Disney.

Re: How many trips have you planned for friends?

I have many of my past associates from work call mw or e-mail me on or about trips to WDW. I been giving advice to many of them from as far back as 20 years . I enjoy doing it and I always have someone that I don't know but knows someone that I do e-mail for information and what to do. Especially those who never been there before.
