Make up my mind!!

Okay, it's not my mind that needs a little shaking up. It's my DH. We've been thinking about a Disney cruise since our trip to WDW last spring. Well, I was just about to book the thing (a 4-night) for spring 2007 when DH says, "maybe we should do a land-sea cruise." Cool! So, I go on-line and do my research. I knew the cost would freak him out but I took a shot anyway. He cringed, as I knew he would. THEN, he says, let's do WDW for 7 days instead of the cruise . . . we'll get more for our money. Argh. DS was excited about the cruise, as was I. DH has a good point about the money part of it. We did PC last time, for six days. Maybe we could shorten it up a bit and do a moderate? Or another value for 7 days? My head is spinning. I don't want to take too much time to decide (we're known for overanalyzing and rethinking things until it's too late). Someone give me some words of wisdom! Advice! Thoughts! Ten thousand dollars so we can just GO!

Re: Make up my mind!!

I love crusin'!
Used to do it a lot before our youngest was born.

The cost is kind of crazy for a Disney Cruise. We have wanted to do one also for the past 4 years.

I feel we get a lot more and a longer vacation by just going to WDW and skipping the cruise thing.

Good luck with the decision.

Re: Make up my mind!!

My only suggestion is to not use Disney's Land/Sea option. Price out your disney stay at a value resort and then add your cruise quote using a travel agent. The price I got from agents was cheaper than the Disney website. Maybe it is not always that way but it's worth a try. Maybe it is within reach if you try it this way?

I'm rooting for you with the cruise as we will be going on our first one in April and I am way excited!

Re: Make up my mind!!

I may go against the majority here but...I would have to agree with your DH that the value is so much better to do a longer WDW trip than a 4 day cruise. We did the land/sea trip this past Oct (the week of Hurricane Wilma ) and I have to say after a few days onboard I longed to be at WDW. Don't get me wrong the ship was beautiful, the kids clubs were great and the food was pretty good - but for the money I like an extended land trip better. It may be that we didn't get to experience everything since it was only a 4 day cruise and we had some weather issues - but the cruise was not my favorite part of the vacation.

With that said, everyone has their own preferences and some people LOVE cruises, but unfortunately, I guess I'm not one of them! Have fun planning the trip!!!

Re: Make up my mind!!

Hmmm. Interesting thoughts so far! Your input is really helpful!
I never thought of pricing a land trip and a cruise separately. That's worth pursuing . . .
IF we should decide to do WDW only, does anyone have any thoughts on a shortened trip at a moderate or a longer trip at a value? Is the difference between a moderate and a value worth taking into consideration? Or should our focus be on the parks?

*head starts spinning again*

spinning head syndrome
It all depends on what you want out of this vacation. If you want to enjoy the parks but also relax and enjoy nice surroundings for a decent price, then a moderate would be so cool. The price is most certainly much less than a cruise would cost.
Is this helping? I hope so...

Re: Make up my mind!!

I would rather have a longer trip and stay at a value. I loved the POFQ, but I would the difference between the room there and at the ASSports was not that great. There is a big difference in room size between a mod and a deluxe though. I would just rather stay at a value and spend more time in the parks than have a shorter vacation at a mod. Have fun deciding! I'm the same way, I have to look at something a million different ways before I have to force myself to make a decision!

I would love to "relax and enjoy nice surroundings!" Is that possible with an 11 year old????? Actually, I'm thinking more of him and what he would enjoy. Not having been to a moderate, would he be impressed or would he be wishing he was at one of the themed value resorts? DH and I will have a great time no matter what but it's a whole lot more fun when DS is having a great time, too.

*thinking too hard . . . *

Oh man, there's two of us??

Your input is helping!! The hardest part of making this decision is, if we do the cruise we want to book it ASAP to get the cheapest price. If we do WDW we have some time to think about it. And think some more. And think some more. . .

Re: Make up my mind!!

I have no advice as I have never been on a cruise, but I know that I would definitely go for an extended stay at WDW! But I too think and think and over think everything, so I feel for you!

Re: Make up my mind!!

hmmm 7 days in the parks? I would just go for it and talk DH into the cruise next time. Your DS isn't going to be disappointed about being at WDW not matter how much the cruise appealed to him. Go with Dh's decision and save the money and just hang at the parks.
