How does your family start their vacation?

I thought this would be a fun thread, the day before our vacation, we go out to eat because we are gone a while and this way we do not mess up any dishes or leave garbage, we also take in a movie the night before, this helps with the excitment, i think we would go crazy knowing we leave the next day. Does your family have a vacation or pre vacation ritual?[/size]

Since we haven't been to WDW in 10 years, I can tell you what we usually do...

DH goes to work, always a full day. My DDs stay out of my way, I usually take at least 1/2 day off from work.

Packing is done during the week, (I have already doubled and tripled check to make sure I have all passes, tickets, etc. that we will need, also that my sunglasses have gone MIA), so the last minute things need to be thrown in.. i.e. toothbrushes, brushes, comb, blow dryer (for the 16 yr old).

Make sure that the DDs have plenty to do for the trip. After that is done, I usually start packing the car, while making dinner, and making sure that all laundry is done. Give the house a once over... at least it gets a quicky.

Check to make sure there is enough cat(s) supplies, if not I’m off to the stored...
Pack the bag with snacks, cooler with drinks, (make ice during the course of the day...).
When DH gets home, I usually ORDER him to the shower (stinky), then we eat... paper plates, do whatever dishes needs to be done, by this time all cooking pots/pans/whatever are washed and put away... send the DH to take the garbage out... Take his stinky work clothes and throw them in the hamper...

We usually drive so... order the girls to get their stuff ready they have X amount of time before I pull out of the driveway (and order them both to take a nature stop). Finishing packing the car with people this time. Call my friend who watches the cats (yes I said cats), give her the key, hugs and kisses good bye. Turn on the BLUE TOOTH, get in the driver's side... hubby tired from working all day... I have done nothing but sit on my butt... anyway, dial my Mom and Dad and his Mom and Dad, advise them at we are leaving at this time and will call them when we get to our destination... If they need me to call my mobile.

As soon as I pull out of the driveway someone will say... "I GOTTA GO!" Put the car in drive, order them out of the house, don't dirty the bathroom, use a bush is you have too... lol (just had to).
Then drive from point A to B and pray that my DH falls asleep and leave me be....

Can't wait for Disney... I am flying this time....

We always get gas and pack the van the night before. We also order Pizza the night before we leave!

since we drive also from Pa we get up at 5:00 to leave at six the car is packed with everything the nite before. i buy extra tooth brushes, hairbrushes etc so we do not have to pack anything in the morning. we leave at six am [ of course my DH is always late so it may be 6:15 to 6:30 am before we leave] we run thru McDonalds to get breakfasts to eat on the road. we then settle in for two days of driving. .

The last time I went to WDW, we flew, my DH hates to fly so for the past 10 years we have done car trip... I refuse to drive more than a work day (his 8 hour - my 10 hour day)... Yes I work the longer hours in the family and I have a 1.5 hour commute on top of it.
Anyway, I do travel for business so flying is no big deal, just have to make sure all the checks and balances are done.
My DD (almost 13) has already started planning... she is USASMIGsomething or other on this board.
We are not leaving until September and I have already:
1) Flight booked
2) Contact ME with flight information
3) Hotel booked - confirmed
4) Made sure reservations has all the special days...
5) Started the pickup/packing list
6) Bought both the Offical Guide and passporter for my DD
7) Picked up pins on ebay... good deal.
8) Got DD (13) her Disney Tink Jacket
9) Waiting for the ladies (all three of us) matching Mickey Polo's
10) Made all ADR's

I know I am forgetting something... but what...

Well let me start by saying "they" don't do a darn thing. DH packs his own suitcase and I do everything else.
