What type of camera?

Could not figure out where to put this question! So what type of camera do you use? I am shopping for a Digital camera. I want decent pics but don't want to spend more than my vacation will cost! Can anybody tell me what the memory stick type things hold for pics? I have researched this everywhere and cannot get an answer! Thanks!:nervous

I have just recently bought the Kodak 3.1 megapixal "Easy Share DX4330". I really like this one. I did some research for a few months before purchasing this. I like the "docking" system. It's so easy to transfer pics from camera to the computer. It comes w/16mb internal memory. But I bought an additional mem card. You can go to Kodak.com to research. I know there are ALL types of cameras, and opinions do varry. This just happened to be the easiest to understand for someone who SO against digital cameras when they first came out.

Good Luck!!:D

I can't say enough about digital cameras and the Disney experience. When I got back from Disney in January, I had 3.1 megapixel camera with a 256 MB smart card and a total of 300 pictures. My camera is a Nikon Cool Pix 885 (it has been upgraded since I bought it in May...now is a Cool Pix 4300(?) with 4 megapixels for the same amount) It took some fabulous pictures, and everytime I turn my computer on, it has a new picture on the desktop of my Disney trip.

My only suggestion with the digital cameras would be get one with a rechargeable battery and buy an extra battery for the trip (nothing like the battery dying at the beginning of the Share a Dream Come True parade...thank goodness for the extra battery!!)

Good luck!!

:)

I bought my camera w/our June Disney trip in mind!!! I can't wait to use it! I have read, and also experienced, that if you use the "view"mode when taking pictures (which is what i love the most) your batteries will expire very quickly. So i agree to buy a few rechargeable batteries (and bring a charger with you to charge at night in resort.)

Definitely recharge back at the hotel. With my camera, 2 batteries lasted all day (with an average of 50 pictures a day, and a change of battery mid-day)

Plus...some of the cameras have the attachment that allows you to hook the camera up to the television so everyone can see the pictures. The only issue is if the television is compatable...sadly, ours didn't. But we still passed the camera around and had everyone looking at the little view screen. It was fun at the end of the night to look at the pictures and see what we did...

It depends on the size of the stick and what resolution you are shooting at - that's probably why you haven't found a clear cut answer.

Before you begin to research your camera, ask yourself what you will primarily be using it for. If you routinely print out 8x10 photos, go with something in the 3+ megapixel range. If the majority of your prints will be in the 3x5 or 4x6 range, stay in the 2+ megapixel range, and you will still be able to get a decent output at 8x10 on high resolution.

Rechargeables, as everyone says, are a must. I don't use the LCD screen on my camera (I use the viewfinder) so my battery will last all day.

My brain's kind of foggy this morning, but I would highly recommend sticking with a company that makes 35mm cameras, and has entered the digital world - they seem to favor better in both the optics department, and ease of use. My personal favorite is the Canon line, although have heard good things about Kodak, Nikon, etc.

Personally, I do NOT like Sony just because of the Memory stick. You are locked into buying in a restricted market.

Other than that, other great options I personally like are:

Self-timer
Night shot
Manual settings
Date function
Red-eye/fill flash
and others that my pre-caffeinated brain can't think of.

The movie function for me is generally a waste, and something that really hooks my DH. I get better/longer footage from my camcorder.

I also use multiple mid-sized memory cards - I had the rude experience of having my digital camera stolen this summer, and I lost all the pictures on my 32mb card. I had all ready filled two cards before, so was happy I didn't have them all in a 128mb card sitting in my camera. Just a tip - I'll never get the bigger cards unless the file sizes get too huge. I can shoot over 100 pics on a 32mb card on medium res (and still get a great 4x6 print) on my Canon S330.

Wow! For a decaffinated brain you sure gave me a lot to think about! Thank you all. Still trying to determine which is best for me. I hate to spend a bunch of money and be outdate before I even use the thing!

Camera

We have a HP digital camera and we love it. We have two 128 mb memory cards because I take the pictures in High resolution. I also use the preview window because you can see what the picture looks like immediately and then decide whether to delete it and take another one or keep the picture that you have just taken. Digitals are great! Enjoy your new camera and your trip!:)

What can someone expect to spend on a

2pix
3pix
4pix

with 64 &/or 128 memory stick.

I've been thinking this for a while. I need to decide soon because I'm spending lots of $$$$ on film and developing.

Wow, that is so subjective. It depends on brand, features, size, resolution, so many factors.

A great site to research and compare different brands is www.dpreview.com It's run by techies and a lot of professional users run exhaustive tests. They also have test photos at different resolutions that you can compare, so you can see what the difference is between high-res and low-res, and different compression rates.

Beware the store clerks. They are quite often young kids who get spiffed on certain products, and have been trained in the "more is better" school of thought. Really school yourself on knowing what you want, and stick to that. You can get some fabulous shots with a 2+ megapixel camera. You can also get some real cruddy ones from a 4+ megapixel one.

You have really helped me out so much. I have been debating on whether or not I wanted to get a digital camera for our vacation...well, I might run out and get one this week after I do my "homework" as far as which one to purchase. Thanks for all of the tips.

DB, make sure you practice BEFORE you get to Disney - I've made the mistake of taking a new gadget on vacation and not being familiar enough with it and spend the vacation with my nose in the manual. LOL!

I bought a camera! Well I should say camcorder. I bought a Sharp VL-NZ100 this is a Mini DV camcorder with removable memory card to store digital pics. So I have the best of both worlds. I hope! It was a great deal on Amazon.com The camcorder was $399 - $100 rebate = $299 I was willing to pay that much for just a stil camera! I know I am babbling but hubby is studying and I have nobody to be excited with! Thanks for all the input!
