Traveling on Labor Day?

I'm actually asking this more than a year out...but hypothetically...

Is flying ON Labor Day a bad idea, is it more expensive or anything?

Labor Day just looks like a good day to leave if we did WDW next Fall. But I didn't know if travel prices/circumstances might make it worth waiting day later?

Re: Traveling on Labor Day?

Flying on the day of a holiday tends to be cheaper than the day before. When I went to WDW on easter that one year, I saved a bundle by flying out on easter sunday. The trip would have cost me almost $300 more to fly the day before easter. I don't know if that holds true for labor day or not, but it does make sense to me. Most people want to get to where they are going before the actual holiday, not on the holiday.

Re: Traveling on Labor Day?

Thanks Dana. I thought flying OUT might be okay price-wise, like you said, because the majority of people may be flying back IN from their vacations.

Re: Traveling on Labor Day?

Actually most people will be flying back in the day after.

Oh, THAT Labor Day...

I was thinking about the day you had little dznybaby! That is labor day too, just a little more personal!

But it can be a great idea to fly on some holidays! I have benefited from it before...

Re: Traveling on Labor Day?

Kim, do you mean you are choosing to LEAVE and start your vacation on Labor Day? If so, I don't think you will have to worry about it being more expensive. A lot of people travel for the Labor Day weekend, and it's busy flying Thurs and Fri before the weekend. Most people COME HOME Labor Day or the day after.

Re: Traveling on Labor Day?

Maybe I'm just not the plane expert...but if many folks are "coming home" why would that make rates still okay for people "going away"?? They don't price your ticket based on which end of your trip you are on...a busy travel day is a busy travel day, at least it seems to me?? And, I'd assume most people have to be back at work the day after Labor Day, so that Monday would be the day to come home.

I know I'm no help....this thread just confused me. It's not like all the "going home" folks ride one plane and the "going there" folks ride another... Considering I've flown 3 times in my whole life, I'm going to assume I'm just missing something....

Sorry, I messed up and meant that most people would be coming home the day AFTER. So I figure there won't be as many people traveling ON the actual holiday. Dana corrected me - cuz I totally sounded like an idiot when I said that! LOL
