Princess Costumes @ disney store
So we went to check out the princess halloween costumes today at the disney store in the mall. First off, you should know that my DD will not accept being anything or anyone other than Ariel for halloween. So we looked at the Ariel dress in the store, and it seemed so flimsy and plain-especially compared to the Cinderella, Belle and Snow White dresses. And, they were $39.50!
So my thought is, to not waste the money on the costume, take DD into WOD NYC to get a REAL Ariel dress (they have the Ariel wedding dress and a mermaid dress) for $60, and let her use it for halloween and to take with us on our December trip. Any thoughts? Also, there was a beautiful Cinderella costume for $79.50, and it was much nicer than the $39.50 one. But, I think I'll just deal with the Ariel issues for now, and maybe surprise DD with a Cinderella dress to bring on our trip too, AFTER it goes on clearance on Nov 1!

I would agree, if you are going to spend the money, take her to the WOD in NYC and get the Ariel dress. I saw those princess dresses the other day at our Disney Store in Columbus and I am with you, I think I will wait until Nov 1 to get your DD that Cinderella dress. I loved the way it looked, but I would probably wait for it to go on clearence too!

PP... I just got back from the WoD store, and wow! They have a whole display of the gowns on the 55th Street side of the building... make sure your DD sees that window!
They have so many costumes in now! And all the accessories too! While you ar ethere, go see the Captain Jack costumes, they are so cute!

Re: Princess Costumes @ disney store
I would take the money and have a seamstress make one instead- that way its like no others- Oh wait I just saw that you were in Long Island so the trip to NYC is not a biggie. I was thinking for me to drive into the city is a 60 min trip to Stratford (20mpg= 3gal = $3x3x2=$20) and then a $30 trainride too and from NYC plus whatever cab or sub I would need during the day and then there is food etc... it would be too much for halloween. I would spend the money on a nice bunch of fabric and then try to make one myself (and then there is always EBAY!!)

Re: Princess Costumes @ disney store
I don't know about Ariel, but we've gotten DD several Disney princess costumes at WalMart for UNDER $20. They are there year-round, not just in the Halloween section.
