No Fly zone over Disney World...

Just heard the news on our 24 hr news station. The FAA has announced that there is a no fly zone over Walt Diseny World. They said it shouldn't affect commerical flights. and they also mentioned no fly zones in NY. They said no specific threats have been made, they are just taking precautions.

That's what i thought! I head them mention Busch Gardens...but my DS:devil was running around like a banshee and what i *think* he said was that no plans were being made to make a no fly zone at Busch Gardens. I'll be listening to the news tonight!!

I also heard on CNN about DW and DL. Then they showed the parades! It was surreal.

I've been checking the news sites and cannot find any reference to a no fly zone being declared over NYC or WDW. It makes sense that if we go to war in the coming days that "No flyzones" will be instituted over certain locations which could make appealing targets to terrorists.

this is what it says on the cnn site:

The Federal Aviation Administration Tuesday announced that aircraft flying in the New York City and Washington, D.C. areas, and near Disney World in Orlando, Florida, and Disneyland in Anaheim, California, will be restricted. Unless commercial or private pilots are granted specific exemptions from air traffic controllers, no flights are allowed within a 3-mile radius around the parks or below 3,000 feet.

Found it! It is in conjunction with the newly elevated security precautions. Quote from CNN.com "The restrictions, which affect both commercial and private aircraft, are in conjunction with the government raising the terrorism threat level in the United States from yellow (elevated) to orange (high) as U.S. forces are poised for war in Iraq. Airspace restrictions announced Tuesday will remain in effect indefinitely, the FAA said."

To me it is just a common sense precaution. The parks make an inviting target due to their large number of tourisits, it's symbolic to the Americna way of life and the impact it would have on the countries tourist economy if something were to happen at these locations.
I say take all the precautions they see fit!

I was reading the article about this on CNN.com The thing that bothers me (although it hasnt changed my mind about going) about this whole reason for flight restrictions over DW and DL is this (quoted from the article) " Counterterrism officals said the Disney parks have come up in interviews with Al-Qaeda operatives. Pictures and information abouth parks have been found during some terror sweeps overseas."

"Officals said the two parks fit the bill for desirable targets: they are symbolic, they attract a hugh number of people on any given day, and hitting them could cause economic distress becuase it would cause people to stay away from tourist sites or recreational facilities."

Im not trying to scare anyone I just wanted to let you know what I read. Like I said in the beginning Im still going in July. Im not going to let these COWARDS run my life. Thats what they want us to do. Sit at home and live in fear for the rest of our lives. :p

A terrorists goal is to disrupt our way of life. I hope people thumb their noses at these creeps and continue to pack the parks. I am flying next week and have no fears at all. :)

Hey there Goofette.....I was just checking into this via CNN and some other news web-sites that I check from time time and it does state that these fly zone rules are still in affect and it looks like they well be for awhile with everything going on. Like you said its better to be safe. :)

It's great how everyone feels, we can't let these "COWARDS", run our lives. With the "no fly zones" in effect, it just makes the American people feel alot safer.
Last night I was listening to our local news, and the Mayor of Chicago came on , and said Mickey & Minnie were getting more protection then Chicago. Well, right now after he made that remark, Chicago has a No Fly Zone in effect , I believe as of yesterday. I didn't mean to chuckle, but when he said, I guess what we need here is a Mickey and Minnie, they took him quite seriously, as they should. He's doing a great job, just as all our leaders are doing. GOD BLESS THEM ALL!!!!!!
