Mind if I share a flag story?

Hope you don't mind but I am overwhelmed with emotion right now and really wanted to share this:

Today in the mail I got a box from our Congressional Representative. Inside was an American Flag which had flown over the Capitol on President's Day. There was a certificate along with it saying that the Representative had it flown over the capitol on February 17th for my children and then it when on to list all four of them by name! I was cyring because I was so moved.

I called my DH to see what it was all about and he said it was a surprise for me. I could not think of a better time to be in possession of such a wonder symbol of our freedom.

Of course we already have a flag flying outside. I have decided not to fly the new one but to put it in a keepsake holder, along with the certificate.

Thanks for letting me share! God Bless the U.S.A.!

That is a GREAT story Cin! What a unique and awesome present! I understand about not flying it, you dont want it to be subject to rain or maybe a birds target (A communist bird of course!) That's a new family heirloom!

I personally find that any patriotic symbol reminds me of 9-11, which nearly killed my aunt. i have always been very "America Oriented"(thats what I call it) and am very happy that the rest of america is catchign up with me.

At first it started very small as most dreams do.
A twinkle in an eye, the thrill of something new.
But then the dream began to grow and come alive.
Touching every one of us, lighting up the sky.
We share a magic day, we share enchanted nights
It's a neverending story and together we all find
It's been a part of me, it's been a part of you.
A part of growing up together
Sharing a dream come true.

Right after 9/11 I ordered a similar flag. Ours was flown on 10/11/01. I also haven't flown it and one of these days I will have it and the certificate framed! It is an awesome keepsake. I just wish I had thought to have it down in my wife and kids names!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, guys, for sharing in my little moment. Probably Matto can give more info but this is what DH told me:

He went to our Representative's website and there was a link to order the flag. You may pick a date in the future to have your special flag flown. He said the cost was approximately $25.00.

Apparently, he had tried to get a flag that had flown on the day of our son's birth but he was unable.

I tell you, this is really something special for me. I appreciate you all letting me share this with you.:D  :)

I have been trying to do this, but cannot find the links on the websites. My father served in Vietnam, and my brother served in the last Gulf war. I think they would both appreciate a Flag.

Matto, if you could help me I would be grateful.

Okay, I found it. I went to my state senators website and there is a link for "press". It then prompts you to click on "flag requests'. They have an order form to fill out. It takes about 8 weeks.
