Pet Peeves anyone?
Sure, WDW is the happiest place on Earth, but it's not perfect. Here were some our our pet peeves on our trip:
1) I was stunned at the number of adult men who were leaving the men's room without washing their hands. Enough said. 2) We were often on standing room only transportation. Where I come from, if you are an able-bodied adult, you give up your seat for someone who isn't. I witnessed pregnant women, small children, and senior citizens all standing on Disney transportation without anyone volunteering their seat (my wife, oldest daughter, and I had already given up our seats). Appalling. 3) I'm not someone who takes out their zoom lens to take pictures of peeling paint on Splash Mountain, but some of the areas are in desperate need of repair. In particular, the Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger spin queue and many of the ride vehicles need some serious work. 4) In my opinion, Disney chose to be unprepared for the crowd levels during Spring Break - probably to save a few bucks. In a nutshell, that's the difference between Walt Disney and Michael Eisner. 5) I don't smoke. I've given up that people will smoke in the designated areas, but I wish they would dispose of their butts in appropriate places. On our last night at Artist Point, we had a view of the pool. Right outside the window, there was an awning and some trees that were littered with butts from some idiot(s) who had flicked them off their balcony. 6) Bag searches; no, the search is fine... But if I had a dollar for every person who didn't have their bag ready to be searched I could've bought several nice meals. If you have the GI Joe Backpack with 89 different compartments, yes, you are going to have to open all 89 compartments for security. Whew... That was therapeutic. Thanks for listening! Bruce

YES!! I agree with you totally:
Regarding #2... When we were on the way back from MK after a long day we got on the bus and there were no seats so my DH was holding Emilie and I was holding everything else and NO ONE offered us their seats. We really only needed one for DH and Emilie because a 30 pound child in one arm while holding the rail will feel like 100 pounds by time you reach your destination!! The bad thing was there were several people who could have but who wouldn't budge. #4 was definetly irritating me on our trip too. I mean really again I say someone needs to explain to them what a crowd is! #5.. AMEN! Actually the whole smoking thing is mine and DH's biggest pet peeve. I'm allergic to cigarette smoke so it give me an awful headache and when people aren't in the appropriate areas my DH lets them know it! Yes, he had been told off before but believe it doesn't phase him and he doesn't back down! #6 OMG I just wanted to shake some of these people! I mean they had people actually coming down the lines telling them to open the compartments and they still wouldn't do it OR they would ask "Do I need to open this one too??" Umm.. HELLO McFLY!!! Another one was the people in the standby line giving us dirty looks as we passed them in the fast pass line we actually had some comments made as we were going by. One girl (teenager) actually laid her self across the fast pass que and was saying no more passing. She almost got whopped in the head with my DD's diaper bay!! :D |

LOL Bruce - I'm glad to see this stuff happens at other resorts too. I thought it was just an All Stars issue.
About the bus, we were on board with a football team, early in the morning, packed bus. The team took up most of the back seats, and standing room. One kid was sprawled across one seat, the guys standing didn't move back when asked, coaches weren't doing anything. There were a couple of families trying to get on, and the line was long. The driver kept asking the guys to move back, but they wouldn't. So, I started cheerfully picking on the guys to get out of their stupor and move on back (with DS hiding in the seat next to me.) I think they'd never been disciplined before. They were very nice once they were told what to do (and it is truly amazing just how many linebackers you can fit in the back of one of those busses if you only make it a game - LOL!) but sheesh! What happened to politeness? Respect? Looking outside of your shell? C'mon all ready?! Hey, that did feel pretty good. :D

Well, one time at MGM, we were waiting in a line to get our pictures taken with Mickey and Minnie Mouse together. This man and his girlfriend (who for the longest time I had mistaken for his teenage daughter:whistle: ) were in line ahead of us. Now, I can tell the man didn't want to be there. How did i figure this out you ask? Well, he was talking on his cell phone to someone and complaining about being there, and having to wait in line to see the characters. Believe me when I say he was not very quite about his conversation. My son was 4 at the time, and this guy was swearing up a storm. To top it off, he was SMOKING in line!! (this was an outside line)After repeated coughing (exagerated a little) by myself and my friend, I finally reached over and asked him to put the ciggaratte out, as he had almost hit my son with it twice and the smoke was blowing in our faces!!!:madmad :devil
Pet peeve....smoking...(i know, i know, everyone is allowed to do what they want, but please try not to near other people!! and i know smoking isn't allowed anymore in lines) Talking on cell phones.... at least try to be somewhat quiet while you are on the phone, especailly when you are complaining about being at the "Happiest Place on Earth"!!!;) Watch what you say....watch the swearing around little ones!!;) This thread could act as therapy!!! It does a body good to vent and let it all out!! Hahaha:laugh

The VERY large tour groups that dress alike and follow leaders holding flags in the air. The group would place a few people in line to wait and when they were almost through the line the rest of the group (30 or more at times) would cut in to the front of the line.
I didn't have this problem on my most recent trip, but on the two trips before that.

#2) That is what I am trying to teach my sons--politeness--there is not enough of that in the world! (respect goes with that also)
#3) Just makes me sad #4) I saw a lot of areas that in the past had three or four cm's and now only had one. On the other hand, I saw a LOT more grey headed cm's than in the past, and I thought that was nice. #5)How about people walking around everywhere smoking, not just in the "smoking" areas? Hello, a whole lot of people have allergies and asthma! But again, it is back to general consideration of others. I have noticed the cussing at WDW much more lately. Dirty looks usually do the trick (I guess because I look so mean!LOL!) But what is it with these people? Do they not care that they could be around children (at disney? no way!):madmad Again, that is back to the consideration. Are we as a nation just not as polite as we used to be? On the other hand, I worked the sign ins for little league tryouts, and the majority of the "hot shot" majors players (ages 11 & 12) were extremely polite, saying yes ma'am and no sir. Don't know what that says, but there are some polite young'ins around. Perhaps they will be the new wave of "its cool to be polite!" group:laugh |

WOW we must be cut from the same cloth (Or at least the same generation)
#1) Do I even have to reply! YECHHHHHHHHHH! #2) I always make a point to give up my sit to and hold open doors for woman, little children and elderly people. My boys (7 and 4) have also picked up on this! #3) It apalls me at the stupid things they cut back on that really can make or break a vacation! #4) It seems that the last few times we went they were OK with the crowds but we went in July so it is usally a no brainer that there will be crowds. #5) Been there done that quite in '98 (AMEN) It makes me nuts to see people smoking in a no smoking area and even burns my knickers more when they do it around kids! #6) Bag searches? Search my bag all you want! Wanna pat me down and have me turn out my pockets go ahead! Want me to take my shoes off no problem! I'd rather be safe and little late then on time and dead! It seems like some people just forget what kind of world we are in today! Oh and one more thing when they say you can bypass the line if you don't have any bags they mean NO bags I don't care how small it is a bag is a bag!:dazed Few I feel better also! Thanks Bruce!!:)

Oh MY. It's been so long. But I must agree on the rude people. Especially walking down mainstreet and someone sees a character and BOOM, your on the ground. They don't apologize, they just keep going. On the subject of characters. Those parents who push their kids to get autographs and they don't want to and they are crying or pouting. And those kids who are old enough to know better and cut in line and the parents who stand back and just let them be rude.
WHEWWW. I feel much better now. Janelle

I also have to ask , has anyone ever been, when all those groups are there from other countries, and flying their flags all over the place???? Now, please don't take this question the wrong way, I know they have all the right in the world to be at DW also. But, they go aroung cutting you in lines, and pretending they do not speak English. Trust me they do speak English.
I will never forget, one very hot, humid day in July, when at Typhoon Lagoon, almost getting hit right in the face with one of those flags. When I asked them politely to please watch how you are waving that flag. I was completely ignored, and this was by one of their chaperons. My temper seemed to flare up, so we talked to a CM, who was very understanding, and did say, they get alot of complaints about them. But very hard to do anything about them. This is another reason we haven't been back in July. I know it's hot, very hot, but I do miss it at times, but don't miss all those flags waving, and those huge group of kids, being quite obnoxious.:( Don't let this stop you from going, you will have a great time!!! JOANN

I spoke to Disney Information tonight and the lady told me that if you bring in a bag larger than a backpack, you will be required to return it to your hotel room or rent a locker for the day. Just wanted to pass it along. And Matt, I'm with you! I am very happy about the bag searches....and wouldn't care if they went as far as no outside food in parks, and adding metal detectors, etc. The safer, the better!

Mine would have to be - line cutters!! It just the most inconsiderate thing you can do at a parl where lines are the norm. I'm sure I'll have a few more after our next trip.
