If & when should we take our next "long" WDW trip?

So, Daniel and I were talking last night over dinner and of course we already have WDW withdrawl. Because we will NOT be going for our normal 7-10 day WDW trip this coming August, we don't know when we'll be going again!

Then I kinda felt bad that maybe we should FORGO a "long trip" this year and focus on making something exciting happen in Spring '08, like Japan or London/Paris.

What do you think, we've come up with three options for a longer WDW trip. All of them are doable but the most difficult one, December for his birthday, will be the most sticky to take off of work.

honestly, what do you think we should do? I really WANT to make a big trip happen next year, BUT I also can't imagine NOT going to WDW for OVER a year (that's never even happened in my LIFE!)

I voted for the long trip in October. It's a great time to go both crowd level and weather-wise, and you only have nine months to wait.

C'mon, you can't go a whole year without a long WDW trip! Put that DVC membership to good use!

I know, I know but the whole Japan thing is a dream too though. A VERY expensive dream, not even sure we could pull that off BUT it's also over a year away.

Aye, I just don't know.

I think you could easily slip a weekend into your year while making Japan happen- JMO

I agree with da mama!! You could do a smaller WDW trip while planning your bigger one. But, if you think that even with having a year to save and plan, you won't be able to afford it in the end, don't plan a "big" trip, just hang it up and make 2 WDW trips out of it!!
But, if you plan on having children (I am not sure if that is in your future or not), you should do your overseas trip before that happens. I am sure you will take your kids to WDW, but getting a small kid to Japan or France?!? That is scarier to me than the drop on TOT!!

I picked early/mid december. WDW is just so magical that time of year with all the holiday decore. If you are going to take a long trip, you should do it then.

While I am no fan of Japan it seems like that might be a good choice since you really want to do that.

I picked October! The crowds should not be too bad and the weather not too bad either.

Or if you don't end up going to Japan go in May of 08 to WDW then we all could have another M&G!

Oh but that is way over a year away

I know cause that is when we are going again

Since I just got home it is easy for me to say you should do something different. Ask me again in say October or Novemeber and my answer will change for sure!

If Japan is a dream I would try to do a short trip and save for Japan. If you really dont think that will happen I would go for December and see all the holiday decorations. I vote December.

(on a side note - depending on what happens in the near future I may have worked out a very quick trip in December - I am so excited even though it will be quick)

I also picked the magical time in December..rates should be better then also so maybe you can still do Paris in spring..that also sounds like a dream...

I love what I have seen of Japan's DL, but I cannot imagine being surrounded by a people that are used to being in each others face/space.

I wonder if anyone here has been there and can talk about that a little.
I voted for October, for no apparent reason

oh and another thought, if I were to go to Japan, I would want to see other things

I like the idea of a December trip. It's a chance to see the Christmas lights, displays etc. We may go next December, but just for a long weekend trip. From what I read, there is a Pop Warner week or weekend I believe in early December, and I understand WDW gets very crowded with football and cheerleaders. You may want to check the dates for that event.

I chose GO TO JAPAN INSTEAD. ONLY because you go to WDW so often and you have been talking about going to Japan for as long as I can remember!! That is a once in a lifetime trip. You can go to WDW ANY time, and you have been there so much. Like WooHoo said, maybe you could go on a mini trip to WDW instead of your BIG trip and save the rest of the $$ for Japan.

IF I were to choose a time to go to WDW, I would HAVE to say early to mid December. It is the most MAGICAL time of the year there!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. Why aren't you able to go in August again???

i voted for October also...we had so much fun when we went for our honeymoon. It was a bit crowded because we went around Columbus Day but hanging out at the Food and Wine Fest was awesome. I'd love to go for the F & W every year!
