"Disney World is for babies!!!"

Has anyone heard this before?

My neighbor's son occasionally comes around to terrorize my kids and my other neighbors kids while they are playing outside.
This kid is 8 years old, but he thinks he 21 and talks like one.
Last night my kids (ds 8, dd 5) were talking to their friends about going to WDW. This punk screams out "Disney World is for babies, my dad took me to Universal, that's were the cool rides are!!". My kids just ignored him. But this really disturbed me. I know some people don't share the same values as we do. My kids really love WDW, but I would hate for them to go to school and have kids make fun of them for liking something some kids don't understand.
Has anyone ever had to deal with this issue?

I've had the same thing happen. My dd is 7 and still likes to wear bows in her hair and loves pooh bear and minnie mouse t-shirts and she loves to wear dresses. Apparently that is not "cool" In the first grade where I live, little girls are "cool" if they are dressed in hoochie coochie shorts and midriff baring shirts. (not in school but everywhere else) In first grade here disney princess music and the music from the piglet movie and the tigger movie and anything else pooh bear is absolutely horrific. You are only cool in the first grade if you listen to Christina Aguilera or Britney or Avril or whoever else. Thank the good Lord my dd doesn't care about cool. She even said to someone once "Pooh bear is about friends and if you were really my friend it wouldn't matter if that is what I like!" (See me burst with pride please) My 5 year old ds is more into the boy side like inspector gadget and treasure planet. They both can't wait to see holes. I wonder if that aggravating little Universal 8 yr old watches all of the "tween" shows on disney. or is he too cool for that too? Kid's are growing up way too fast these days. Why can't we use Disney to help keep the child alive in all of us for a little longer.
good luck with the neighbor, I'm sure your kids won't let his perspective affect theirs!

It sounds like this kid is repeating something an adult, probably one of his parents has said. Nonetheless, this just breaks my heart! Your kids are so young to be going through stuff like this!

I know of someone whose son (6) was tormented for wearing Buzz Lightyear clothing. She suggested that they save the Buzz clothing for home or special outtings. How sad he had to grow up so fast.

Maybe next time your kids could point out how Disney has 4 parks and 2 two water parks with enough rides and thrills for everyone from babies to adults. Then they should suggest it is too bad that he has to make fun of other people for liking something different than he does.

Or you could just spank the kid, like he seems to need. :D (joking, of course!);) :)

This is really sad. I also worry about this. Hearing the way some of the kids at my ds school and sports teams talk, they all seem so much older than they really are. I worried about buying a Buzz backpack and lunch box for him, afraid he would be made fun of. (he is 7 now, almost 8) I've never heard anyone saying anything like this, but I know it's out there. My son *loves* disney world, and wearing his disney shirts (he is especially proud that I made him some) and always gets excited about telling his class whenever we go to WDW. I'd hate to think there are kids out there who bash our children who enjoy WDW so much. I know there are children who enjoy Universal and the rides they have, and that is wonderful (my son doesnt' like roller coasters, so this park is not for him right now) but why do they have to be so negative about what other parks other children enjoy? Sometimes the parents moral/opinions pass on down to the children.

I'm glad you kids didn't seemed bothered by this! Good for them!

I find most of the time, that the people that make fun of DW either: One, never been there. Two, only went there for one day back in 1991 and it rained. Or, are just big jealous grumps. We love it and we plan to keep taking our son as he grows up. Kids shouldn't have to endure the things they do. Thank goodness they have us to come home to. :heart

<<----29 Year Old "baby"

*LOL*

I am 29 and I do not have children BUT I go to Disney every 6 months or so. Does that make me a baby? I THINK NOT!

You guys won't believe this!!

I work at a fabrication plant. The folks who work in the shop are boilermakers. Most of them drive Harleys. You know the type. They are great guys, but they are wise crackers. I was just down on the shop floor looking at a part. One of the guys in the shop stopped by to chat. He noticed that I am wearing a Mickey shirt. It is a plaid shirt with an embroidered Steamboat Willie on the chest. He said "Ain't that cute, did your wife buy that for you?". I said "No, I bought it a Disney World." He just shook his head and walked away laughing.

People, it's not just happening to my kids, it's happening to me too!!!

lol, lol!:laugh. I have 3 disney shirts in my closet right now that have NEVER been worn to school...wanna know why? becuase Im 16 and wearing a Mickey Mouse t-shirt is so "not cool". lol. I think people are subject to harrasment about going to WDW at any age, either your too young, or too old. Those people that say that have are very sad, its ashame they cant enjoy the happiest place on earth.

Joe:)

Ooh-ohh! I just remembered a story! About a year ago, I was watching tv at like 8 o'clock at night and, my doorbell rang. It was my friend wanting to give me an invitation to her b-day party, I was wearing my lion king on broadway shirt and pajama pants.....to this day she has never let me forget the time she came over and I was wearing my "lion king pajamas" lol. Just call me "Joe Cool" lol :) .

Isn't it sad that our kids can't be kids. Just recently my DD wore a sweatshirt from the haunted mansion in Disneyland. She won't wear her princess Jasmine shirt (her real name is Jasmine) because it's to "baby". I said WHAT?? She said that the girls tell her it is for "babies". I am slowly teaching her to like what she wears no matter what anyone else says, except mom of course. My DD is going to be 8 and in the 3rd grade soon and It is only going to get worse. What the older girls wear now, just shocks me. But letting your daughter wear such clothes just makes me mad:madmad :madmad . All I can say is, look I wear mickey stuff, earrings, shirts, shorts etc. I even wear a spongebob watch, but I'm not a baby, I just love things that make me smile!!

:D :D :D

It's obvious, that he has never been to DW. I feel you just cannot compare DW to Universal. They are both great, but no comparison!!!!
If your kids truely love DW, no one will ever change their minds!!!!:) JOANN

How odd

I was just at my daughter's brownie meeting the other night and all the mom's were having a great time talking about our upcoming disney trips. My daughter's in 1st grade and Princesses are still very popular. Alot of the girls wear "hoochie mamma" clothes as I call them and listen to pop music, but my daughter has never been picked on for wearing disney clothes. Luckily most kids in her class still love it and many are going on or have been on trips to DW this spring.

By the way I am an adult who LOVES TIGGER and I am not afraid to admit. I wear my tigger t's all the time in fact I am wearing one now so I must be a baby. Oh well:p

I am now 30 years old, and go to Disney every year. (at least now I am bringing my 1 1/2 year old son!!!) I am never ashamed to tell anyone where I am going...all of the people at work call me the "DISNEY THEME PARK QUEEN" since I go so much. I am also a Pooh lover...I have a tattoo of Winnie on my hip that I got when I was 19. I'll have a part of Disney with me everywhere I go!!! LOL

Such stories don't surprise me. To me, its a classic battle of morality. Today's kids are bombarded by an ever increasing amount of all the negative and unimportant aspects of life, stuff that will not prepare them for a happy or successful future.

This 8 year old seems to be raised by parents that "go with the flow", without teaching him the kind of wonder about the world kids need. I will forever fight these opposing people so that my 2 DDs will not be corrupted, have a respect for life, and a hope for the future. The story is typical of the fight that many of us face everyday in one form of another.

I was about 8 when I first went to WDW and still have a vivid memory of how I first embraced the magic of Disney. It was always on my mind, and still is dear to my very essence. It's easy for many to condemn Disney. It takes good character to know the real difference between WDW and US. US may have great rides, but, IMO, that's all it can ever have. These negative people know that, but they won't admit it. They would be forced to look inside themselves. It simply takes too much effort for them.

I don't mean to sound so abrasive (still trying to get over the upcoming Pooh ride closure) , but this 8 year old's story is typical of a echoing a bigger problem with society. I just remain firm not to let my kids get swept away with cynicism that would spoil their childhood experience.;pirate:

My dd just turned 9 in March, and it's definately not "cool" to wear Disney stuff to school...but, she loves her clothes and wears her Jessie shirts proudly lol (she wore one yesterday!). When she got back from vacation last year she would tell all of the kids during recess about the rides. She's very "Expresive" and loves a good story lol and in a few days, they were all "Playing" they were at WDW (Except HM, she was terrified of that ride, so she said they didn't play they were on that one) lol. I worry about her so much, kids can be so cruel, but so far she can handle her own with them. I hear so many awful stories, and one the other day literally made me cry, to think she is subjected to these types of things at school, but I know they are probably only going to get worse, I just hope I can instill morals and self confidence in her, where she feels confident to be her own person, no matter what others say....still yet  it's hard watching your kids go through that. But I believe it only makes them Stronger.

JOE!!! I Loved that Story! That is absolutely great hahaha. I laughed reading that.:laugh :laugh
